Murder Mystery

Adam Sandler is surprisingly not annoying. Jennifer Aniston makes you wish she did a lot more movies. A funny and silly movie about a cop and his wife who get embroiled in a murder mystery on their belated honeymoon. Its loads of time pass fun. I'm hoping for a sequel on the Orient Express.

Flash S5

Team Flash gets new additions - Nora West Allen, the time traveling daughter of Barry Allen and Iris West as well as Sherloque a new Francophile Harrison Wells from another earth. Ralph Dibny grows as a character and grows on you. Cisco aka the Vibe gets his growth arc after a heartbreak.

The new big bad is Cicada, a mysterious metahuman with the ability to dampen the powers of other metas and kill them. He goes on a killing spree. The season focuses on finding and stopping him.

It's a good season. The arcs of Barry and Iris as parents add dimensions to their characters. Despite time traveling plotholes it holds and carries interest. It serves as the starting point for Elseworlds that introduces Batwoman as well. But the season finale is a devastating departure that leaves more questions than answers.

Stree

A country like India needs lessons in feminism without being too preachy. Simmba's appeal to the least common denominator is one way of doing it. Stree manages to be sharp with its unique blend of horror comedy.

Set in Chanderi the movie has a very rustic small town charm. Life in small-town India is beautifully recreated. Vicky, Janna, and Bittu are quintessential small-town guys. It connects with small-town/rural India with authenticity and heart. This allows them to get clever with the plot and symbolism. They manage to be hilarious without being juvenile.

A definite triumph for Bollywood with its clever plot and fantastic ensemble performances.

Sidebar: The success of movies like Stree, Andhadhun, Badhaai Ho remind us that the era of superstars is over. Everyday heroes appeal a lot more to the people. Super 30 should have been made with Pankaj Tripathi as the lead instead of the superstar route.

Game over

This is a tamil telgu bilingual film that I saw dubbed in hindi . Tapsee Pannu plays a young woman named Swapna who is dealing with the effects of a bad incident in her past. She has repeated panic attacks due to memories of the incident . Taking care of her is her loyal companion Kalamma ( Vinodhini Vaidyanathan ) . Also Swapna is unknowingly in contact with the spirit of a young woman who died due to cancer , and that contact is due to a remarkable coincidence .

Swapna is shocked on learning of the coincidence that led her in contact with the spirit , and the mother of the young woman who died due to cancer has to be invited to calm her down . The mother tells Swapna of the brave fight her daughter gave to her disease . Around the same time young women are being stalked and killed by dreaded a serial killer . As the serial killer makes Swapna and Kalamma his next targets , it is the memory of the courage that the dead young woman showed in fighting cancer that gives courage to Swapna to fight the serial killer hell bent on taking her life .

The movie has several scenes where you don't know if it is dream or reality for Swapna , and the dreams give her insight into what is going to happen . A couple of scenes are really chilling , and keep you at the edge of your seat . Later the film becomes more thriller than horror as the killers close in on their quarry and there is some blood spilled . Background music and photography is decent enough , and the film's colours are okay .

Verdict---Good .

Three and a half stars out of five .

Why does Jhanvi Kapoor keep getting movies?

It's so mind-blowing to me this girl still gets movies. Karan Johar will support until she is in her 40's probably. Do you think she can last...
