Ok finally watched October, I'd be very honest about my choices, be it cinema, shows or social media, anything related to virtual world is a medium of escape for me from the reality, hence I tend to avoid watching Realistic films in theatres, but I could'nt be more glad about the fact that I experienced this film in theatre.❤️
October is not a movie, it is a tapestry of feelings woven together, intrinsically. It hardly says anything, but once you immerse yourself into this ocean of feels you understand so much & leave the theatre with a feeling you never knew existed it makes you rediscover it, its a kind of film where i can bet ppl will catch on the the underlying meaning of many subtle moments in every viewing. But even if u miss out on these one thing that stays with you is, Dan.
The basic plot is wafer thin, a lot is left on audience to interpret, so I'd try & just do that, coz there are things about the film I really need to get off my chest & mind😆
*****May contain spoilers*****
The film is not a love story but story about Love, a love so pure, natural & selfless that the ppl surrounding them (DAn & Shiuli) take their bittersweet time to understand it or atleast finally respect it.
Its just poetically beautiful how Shiuli's last coherent sentence in her fully conscious state was, "Where is Dan??" and the kind of effect it had on him, so much that eventually he was the only one who understood why she was becoming violent later on
Basing this totally on what they showed & not filling in the gaps myself, but how fascinating it was that the last word she spoke was Daa...a..n..❤️ co-incidentally the last alphabet she wrote was "D" and scribbled away the notepad (incredible detailing) & the last person who saw/imagine or bid her soul was Dan (The door- missed calls scene before he comes to her funeral was absolutely haunting) it makes you ask that is it possible to love someone so purely that you start connecting with them on a spiritual level...Dan is the answer.
Like I said its all on how you interpret it, but Dan is such a briliantlly written character and just as effortlessly played by Varun, the arc he travels is simply compelling, Dan comes across as the guy who doesnt give a damn about consequences, he doesnt make any effort to please ppl infact annoys them😆, he just doesnt care what ppl will say or think about him but ironically he is one of the most caring characters on celluloid or you will rarely come across someone like him,
my most favourite scene was his interactions with the nurse the one who kicked him out in the 1st meeting, to sharing the plight of nurses with smiling fondly at his casual "Main toh kar sakta hoon nurse se shadi" how he says par Gift lekar aana (whatever was that weirdo doing swinging on wheelchair?😆)
There are just so many scenes I cant stop myself from talking and thinking about❤️ be it the, eyebrow threading bit, receptionist scene, laundry mein aggresive scene😆 ventilator scene, Dan lashing out at customer, him being asked to leave the house by his friends, damn... Dan just lingers in ur head.
***** Spoilers over*****
The cinematography, camera work, rain shots, park shots, hotel-PG-Hospital shots or the way Kullu has been captured its just enchanting makes u feel like you are in the film with those characters, such natural performances by this all debutant support cast just have to mention the uncanny resemblance Banita & Gitanjali have features wise😆❤️ Background score was mesmerizing glad there weren't any songs in the film to disturb the ambience. Kudos to Juhi & Shoojit for this masterpiece, and lastly about Varun who delivers one of the most natural performances I have seen by an Actor in ages, he has worn Dan like a second skin, and makes you root for him right from the 1st shot of him trampling towels,
Its an out n out character driven Art-house cinema, yes it demands a lot of concentration & some patience, but once u submit urself the effect is lasting,
I'll give 4.5 Stars, not everyone's cup of Herbal Tea😆 but a MUST WATCH!!!!!
