those days the likes of Sanjeev Kumar were considered as good actors...Rajesh Khanna was more of those chocolate heroes who girls were crazy about

i never got the hype around Dilip Kumar either..i mean he is a natural but not one of the greatest..i prefer Sanjeev Kumar over him any day!

Dilip Kumar has an great box office record.
Very less number of flops and mostly filled with Hgoty.
And he was a great actor, and definitely better than the three Khan.

He was middle of the pack for me. He wasn't terrible. But he wasn't great either.

He was a very bad actor but he had that elusive X factor in spades!!! Seeing how many women loved writing letters to him in their BLOOD. (W*F?!?!!) He was the first bonafide superstar so I reckon that went to his head too. But if we are talking about acting, no, he was no actor. But no-one could outshine him in Superstardom, looks & charm till he was ruling the roost.

Rajesh Khanna was more of a star than an actor. There were very few roles where he was the character rather than Rajesh Khanna the star. Ittefaq was one of those. He was average in Anand. Certain portions like when he sings Kahin door he was brilliant in and then some other parts he could not help but use his star mannerisms. Everyone praises Amitabh in that movie. However he played the angry helpless man seeing someone die much better in Mili. In Anand there are some scenes where you can see that he is acting with hilarious results

Girls used to put mud from his Mercedes Tyre marks as Sindoor. This was told by my neighbor aunt who was a big Rajesh Khanna during her college days.

He was their prince charming. Acting is subjective in the end.

i think Anand is more Hrishida's vision than anything else..the screenplay and the script was so well written and the editing so good that any other actors other than Amitabh and Khanna would still have made the film what it is...in some parts Amitabh has such terrible body language..but you look past all that..such amazing film it was..i think Rajesh khanna was lucky to have played Anand...considering he was the third choice after Raj kapoor and kishore kumar..

has anyone seen Namak Haram here?..another great movie by the same team..Amitabh totally overshadowed Rajesh Khanna in it:0

I think he did well for his generation. At that time, like others have said here, people loved actors more for their style than acting. Today it's all about being realistic. Then, it was probably all about being charming even if it means giving dramatic performances.
I think a good actor should be able to act realistically and give those dramatic performances too if she is really good. But I don't think many so called good actors today can convincingly pull anything like that off. So, everybody is just doing what comes more naturally to them. The actors in those years should not be held accountable to today's standards.
