Sati and Jauhar aren't different. They both are the branches of the same idea. The practice of Sati started on the basis of the concept of Jauhar itself. Sati only started when there were no more invasions and wars and people did not fear of being captive. The whole concept of Sati is based on Jauhar, especially the one by Rani Padmini, the reason why she is regarded as Sati Padmini in India.
What was shown as Jauhar in the film during that period would turn into Sati now since we don't have any more wars and invasions and have no fear of enslavement. So the common idea that binds Sati today with Jauhar of that era is dying along with your dying husband and remaining pure, pious and only his for all the seven lives like it's promised in marriages.Hence the reason why the disclaimer read Sati because the only message from the film that is relevant even today is that the wife should be only committed to her husband, should dedicate her whole life in his service and also burn into ashes when her husband passes away. And come to think of it, in our society, such thinking is still relevant and I won't be surprised if people do get inspired from the film and take their life like Padmaavati instead of living their life as a video. I know, that's quite unbelievable but in a country, where in the 21st century, women can willingly be ready to commit Jauhar just to stop the release of a film, anything can happen in that country and that society. That's why the disclaimer about the film not intending to promote Sati. Just like Pari had a disclaimer about not intending to promote blind faith and black magic.
I am still angry this movie didn't come come with an apology for what you are about to see
