Baaghi 2 Takes The Best Opening Of 2018
Friday 30 March 2018 12.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Baaghi 2 has taken the biggest opening of 2018 with morning occupancy of around 45-50% with a 3400 screen release. Padmaavat was a bit lower occupancy on a 3750 screen release. The opening of that film was affected by protests at many places but it also had huge hype generated by the same protests..

The holiday factor has aided the opening of the film and it could turn out to be the highest opening day of the year beating Padmaavat but that will depend on how the first day unfolds post the late afternoon shows. Padmaavat had stronger evening shows compared to the morning. It is easily the highest opening ever by a Tiger Shroff release and compares well with any opening by a young star.

The action factor along with the holiday and then some brand recall value has meant the audience has flocked to the theaters and if the film is a even a decent watch it will have no problems at the box office..

Baaghi 2 opening is across the board with even South and West Bengal recording very good collections where normally mass action films start a bit slower. The top five openings of 2018 in terms of occupancy are as follows.

1. Baaghi 2

2. Padmaavat

3. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety

4. Pad Man

5. Raid

Baaghi 2 Movie Review: This Tiger Shroff Starrer Is Bollywood's Answer To John Wick

Some movies are just made with the purpose of serving entertainment and Baaghi 2 is one of them.

March 30, 2018

Baaghi 2 Movie Review Rating: 3/5 Stars (Three stars)

Star Cast: Tiger Shroff, Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda, Manoj Bajpayee, Prateik Babbar, Deepak Dobriyal.

Director: Ahmed Khan.

Baaghi 2 Movie Review: This Tiger Shroff Starrer Is Bollywood's Answer To John Wick

What's Good: Jaw-dropping & mind-blowingly shot action sequences, Tiger Shroff's BEASTY performance & beautiful cinematography.

What's Bad: A hauling plot which could've been edited with so perfection to make this even better, few forced songs & a lot of flimsy things happening in between.

Loo Break: Only if the air-conditioning of your cinema is too cool because the movie is entertaining enough to not let you go.

Watch or Not?: A treat for action lovers & a must watch for them!

The story of Baaghi 2 starts with Neha (Disha Patani) getting beaten by two baddies who kidnap her daughter. Ronnie (Tiger Shroff) is this monstrous army officer posted in Kashmir. Through flashback makers reveal how they both were in love with each other and are away from each other since 4 years. Going through their love story in a flashback Tiger arrives in Goa where Neha is in trouble.

In a parallel track, makers reveal how there is something wrong happening with this entire kidnapping case. Keeping things under the wraps, makers make you guess what's actually happening with the plot. Ronnie's journey of finding Riya explores a lot of outlawed things happening in the system. Tackling both the tracks, the story develops towards the end and mystery reveals.

Baaghi 2 Movie Review: Script Analysis

Based on Adivi Sesh's original story of Kshanam, a Telugu film, Sajid Nadiadwala has made some changes to the script of Baaghi 2. The best thing about the movie is its action and makers knew this since the word go. Ahmed had Tiger as his ace player and he has utilized the most of him. This surely is one film in which Tiger Shroff has been used to his full throttle.

Script has a lot of loopholes and there are times when it's hard to avoid them but to everything boils down to the masaaledaar action sequences. Out of the whole duration of the film, the movie has 80-20 % of action to story ratio. Slickly choreographed action scenes, Santhana Krishnan & Ravichandran's splendid cinematography piqued my interest for the film.

Baaghi 2 Movie Review: Star Performance

This is by far Tiger Shroff's best performance till date, though to be honest I skipped his last two films. But in this one, he honestly seems to be taking efforts to portray more than just his physique. When it comes to action he obtains more than full marks and is a treat to watch. His moves are choreographed so well they don't seem less than a physical poetry.

Disha Patani is the most beautiful actress in the industry right now, no two thoughts about it but we wish she had a more meaty role in this one. For whatever time she is, she charms with presence but some meaningless traits kill the fun. Randeep Hooda & Prateik Babbar's presence comes in as the biggest surprise.

Randeep brings in the required humour to the script as he plays the role of a quirky drug addict police officer. Manoj Bajpayee's character is a hurriedly written product but because of his talent, the balance gets maintained. Track of Deepak Dobriyal's friendship with Tiger was also half-baked and could have been much better.

Baaghi 2 Movie Review: Direction, Music

Ahmed Khan surprises big time with this one; there might be flaws in the script but direction wise Khan manages to keep the thrill alive. He leaves no stone unturned when it comes to making Tiger perform action stunts. Masses will lap up to this one & it could turn out to be a successful venture for the makers. Yes, Ahmed has taken most of the inspiration from Kshanam when it comes to camera angles but in the end, this one is a beautiful looking film.

Julius Packiam upgrades the get ready to fight' theme and use it smartly behind the scenes. The score elevates the action scenes and is used very well where required. Songs are forced barring a couple of them. Atif Aslam's O Saathi has been well used and Jacqueline's Ek Do Teen looks stunning on screen. Nothing memorable about the songs but I, kind of, was waiting for Soniye Dil Nahi throughout the film.

Baaghi 2 Movie Review: The Last Word

Some movies are just made with the purpose of serving entertainment and Baaghi 2 is one of them. When we as the audience can enjoy something like John Wick (It is an outstanding film & I am not comparing, please consider this before bashing me) we should not have a problem with this one.

Three stars!

Movie Review: Baaghi 2

Review by Bollywood Hungama News Network
30 March 2018 13:02 pm IST
3.0

Action has been the mainstay of Bollywood flicks and it's as important as song and dance. Although action flicks have been churned regularly by Bollywood, there are not many current actors who come under the category of action stars. At such point, Tiger Shroff came as a breath of fresh air. Action is his USP and the manner in which he beats up the baddies is quite entertaining. Tiger has become a darling of the masses and one of the big reasons why that happened was thanks to his second film BAAGHI [2016]. Now it's second part, BAAGHI 2, has released in cinemas. So does it go beyond the first part and emerge as a great action entertainer? Or does it fail to entice? Let's analyse.

Movie Review: Baaghi 2

BAAGHI 2 is the story of a fearless rebel who undertakes a dangerous mission when his ex-girlfriend seeks his help. Ranveer Pratap Singh (Tiger Shroff) is a brave army officer. One day he gets a call from his ex-girlfriend Neha (Disha Patani). She asks for his help in finding her daughter Rhea who got kidnapped two months ago. Ranveer begins his investigation but hits a dead-end soon enough. Nobody is a witness to the kidnapping. Some even claim that Neha never had a daughter. Neha's husband Shekhar (Darshan Kumaar) also confirms this fact. He adds that Neha is suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder due to which she is imagining her daughter getting kidnapped. Ronnie confronts Neha over this revelation but she remains adamant. Ronnie refuses to believe, prompting Neha to take a shocking step, which devastates Ronnie. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

BAAGHI 2 begins on a thrilling note. Ronnie's entry as expected is quite clapworthy. One expects fireworks as soon as he lands in Goa to find the missing Rhea. Sadly, two songs are placed almost back to back. This dilutes the impact a bit. But the action scene in the police station brings the film back on track. A sea of characters are then introduced in the next 30-40 minutes and they add a lot of weightage to the narrative. Thankfully, each one of them are there for a reason. There's also unpredictability in the plot, which makes for a good watch. But the film suffers due to lack of logic. Also, the fights are hardly there before the interval. The second half has more action sequences and this would surely impress the masses. At the same time, the emotional quotient comes out well. The climax has a high dose of fights and the final scene of the film is lovely.

BAAGHI 2 is adapted from a Telugu film KSHANAM by Sajid Nadiadwala and the plot is very weak. Although one is not supposed to look for logic in masala films, the level of absurdity in this flick is too high. Jojo Khan, Abbas Hierapurwala and Niraj Mishra's screenplay is twisted for no reason and is devoid of logic. In the climax, it gets a bit haywire during the flashback. It might be difficult for some viewers to guess what exactly happened. Hussain Dalal's dialogues are quite massy and whistle inducing. Ahmed Khans direction is quite an improvement as compared to his previous attempts. He still falters in a lot of scenes but overall he manages to execute the film in a neat and simple manner.

Coming to performances, Tiger Shroff delivers a terrific performance and enters successfully in the intense zone. It's great to see how he's able to look agitated and at the same time quite vulnerable. His action and dance as expected makes for paisa vasool' fun. Disha Patani sadly has lesser screen time and she surely has a long way to go when it comes to her performance. Her chemistry with Tiger however is good. Manoj Bajpayee (Ajay Shergill) gives a nice, subtle performance as per his character's requirement. Randeep Hooda (Lodha Singh Dhul aka LSD) gets to essay the most colourful character in the film and he's too good. Viewers are sure to go crazy after witnessing his antics. Prateik Babbar (Sunny) gets into the skin of his character. Deepak Dobriyal (Usman) leaves a mark with his performance and one-liners. Grandmaster Shifuji Shaurya Bharadwaj (Colonel Ranjeet Walia) is quite a livewire but sadly this time he doesn't have much to do. Darshan Kumaar (Shekhar) is quite okay while Sunit Morarjee (Sharad Kute) goes overboard. Jacqueline Fernandez is quite sizzling in her item number.

The Songs are strictly okay but barring the item number, the rest don't make the desired impact. Mundiyan' is forced but is quite peppy. Ek Do Teen' is energetic, O Saathi' is lovely while Lo Safar' is wasted. Julius Packiam's background score is quite impactful.

Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran's cinematography is eye catching. The aerial shots especially are quite well captured. Ram Chella, Lakshman Chella, Kecha Khamphakdee and Shamshir Khan's action is quite entertaining and the mainstay of the film. Rameshwar Bhagat's editing is okay and the film could have been shorter. Laxmi Keluskar and Sandeep Meher-Lasa's production design is rich.

On the whole, BAAGHI 2 boasts of an extraordinary action and spectacular performance from Tiger Shroff with an absence of a convincing and engaging screenplay as a minus point. At the box office, it will score huge over the weekend in the mass dominated circuits. However the real test for the movie will begin from Monday onwards.
