BI As I said this could have been a publicity stunt but even then the logic this post follows is null and void for me.. Because she wears cleavage revaling dress, she jas no right to be offended if someone takes a pic from wrong angle and circles her boob? Thats the problem with this post.. As for that saga, I did not follow it so cannot comment about it being a publicity stunt or not.. That is a diffrrent matter altogether

of course...this article is absolutely BS of the highest order...I myself had supported Deepu then.

No it does not appear fishy because if she would have actually had a mal-intent she would not have openly reconciled with Priya and they would have milked it longer. I am guessing the Jains intervened to sort out out the mess and the bad publicity ToI was garnering and had them publicly tweet that things are now ok. They may have apologised to deepika and she knowing the power Jains wield decided to let bygones be bygones. She is not so powerful nor is she a Kangana to carry on a crusade come what may even at the cost of it hurting her career.

I truly believe her outburst at the time was genuine. Assumptions that it was a publicity stunt will not persuade me to change my mind about it.

These students from Harvard did a photoshoot to give out a powerful message on women's issues

Deccan Chronicle | September 25, 2014, 13.09 pm IST

These Indian students from Harvard went topless for a shoot to give out the message- A woman's body is her own.

Their website, embodyindia.tumblr.com, has put down a powerful letter revolving around the Deepika-ToI row. Read excerpts from the article.

To walk down the street in India as a woman is to understand the complexity, discomfort surrounding feminism and women's rights in India. Whatever one wears, however unengaged and stoic one may be, the very presence of a women in a public, likely male-dominated space, invites' attention. Those that might show a shoulder or a midriff? Well, they're obviously asking for' the leers, the whistles and the lip-smacking.

In their recent op-ed, the Times of India asks mockingly if Deepika thinks that they should ask her for permission every time they print her picture. What Priya Gupta and her associates do not understand is the intent behind the publications photographs: Consent, of course, to the Times of India, is a laughing matter, and public shaming, apparently, is an acceptable tool to make a point. Publishing a picture of a person's breasts, surrounded by red arrows and circles, is ultimately no better for a woman than being ogled on the street: it is an act equally lacking in consent, and one that has much greater potential to harm and violate a victim. Yet, this is not the vocabulary one sees used by the Times of India, because a woman going to a bar in a "s**tty" outfit is asking for it. A woman out at night, is a hypocrite"if she's such a smart, independent woman, she should know better. If she gets raped, shame on her for losing her virtue. If we cannot expect the press"the philosophical Fourth Estate' and protector of our democratic rights"to show women respect, how can we start to expect respect for the state? Public discourse on women's rights in the media and in civil society is couched in offensive and insufficient rhetoric, as are many of the articles of this publication.

A daily publication, however banal their content is, stoops to ad hominem attacks, the immature re-publication of photo-shoots, and utterly insipid arguments like: "Deepika, just for the record, we do not zoom into a woman's vagina or show her nipples. As a newspaper, we take every care to ensure that we pixelate them if they show up in a picture." (How mightily conscientious of them!) It is utterly abhorrent that the Times of India felt that "Deepika chose to raise a furor and suddenly felt violated' only during the release of her movie Finding Fanny," and further, that writer Priya Gupta chose to put the word violated' in quotation marks, as though Deepika as a woman, her fears for her own and other women's privacy, and the broader question of misogyny and the sexual objectification of women ought not be the legitimate concerns of the paper or the public.

This issue doesn't just concern women. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect. We do not doubt that Indian men are capable of respect, love and affection towards women; and the movement we are launching includes both genders. It is time we speak meaningfully about these issues, and start to accept women for who they are and who they choose to be in the most holistic way.

its fine...u are entitled to ur opinion...but even if it wasn't a PR stunt...don't you think it was highly irresponsible and selfish of Deepika to make the millions supporting her look like fools?? Shouldn't she have given some kind of statement?? Shouldn't Priya have offered a public apology?? I guess she did once but that was years later...It was Deepika who should have thought about how to justify her getting back with Priya.

Told ya that she's a follower as opposed to a trendsetter

I really find her constant attempts to upstage her co-stars/peers/rivals extremely infuriating 😵 #FOMOgoals

Yeah she could have put out a statement but that is another matter altogether. She never thought that it would become a feminist movement, maybe she did not know how to deal with it. Everyone is not a Kangana who can appropriate such movements to their advantage.

Whoever wrote this post is so effing ignorant and stupid.
Who are you to comment what a woman should wear and not wear.
Its her body
You are the type of people who blame the rape victims by saying they provoked rape.
Its her breasts. She is proud of her body. Let her show off.
Who are you to pinpoint and critisise.
God I got sooo angry after reading this post.

This is SO true, when Nirbhaya incident happened, quite a few so-called responsible people had blamed her for going out for a late evening show. This article is similar to that.
