Director R Balki opens up about 'PadMan's' failure to enter the 100 crore club

Smita Poojary| Mar 7, 2018, 03.31 PM IST
Akshay Kumar's last film 'PadMan' had created a lot of excitement among the audience. However, when it came to the box office numbers the film did not live up to the expectations. When director R Balki was asked if the subject affected the film's business, he replied "When you make a film on menstruation, the intention is never the box office number, but the impact it creates. The best part is people now do not shy away talking about menstruation.

He further added "Even if 10 people changed their thought, I would consider that as good sign. And whatever number our film has got at the box office, it shows how many people watched the film, keeping the intention of the film in mind. For us, it is a huge achievement."

According to trade experts, the film gained its maximum footfalls in metros when asked about the same he said "Well, I think when it comes to awareness of menstruation hygiene, even city people are also not aware of it that well and it is also taboo for them. Even inside Mumbai, if you go a little into the interiors and suburban areas, people are not open to talk about it. So we are trying to arrange a free screening of the film in the rural areas, with Melinda Gates Foundation... We have already started from the outskirts of Maharashtra,"

Before buying pad the shopkeeper first wraps it in a paper and then put in a black plastic bad so that it cannot be seen. Such a treatment isn't given even to gifts😆 They charge you extra for the wrapping😆
I haven't seen Padman, but a topic like menstruation is way ahead of its time

That's the spirit! It's important that it raised awareness toward menstruations and the taboo surroundding it.
Despite its failure to enter the 100cr club, the movie is a success as I'm sure people have never talked more about periods than when the movie was releasing. Even the government took interest in this subject.

It's a good thing that such a team of well-known people -A listers at that- worked on this topic.

The movie Phullu which was also a Hindi movie with the same theme failed to open discussions and attract interest.

People who have actually seen the movie have only good things to say about it.
That's already a success especially giving the fact that the very word period can be a source of embarrassment for many people.

Why is crossing a 100 crores a benchmark for anything? Crap like golmaal and houseful cross 100 crores.
