You can't drown after you die. Drowning doesn't mean going under water. Drowning means actively breathing water (or something else) into your lungs. She had to be breathing (and therefore alive) to drown. A pathologist can look at her lungs and tell with certainty whether she was breathing in the water (or not).

If she suffered a cardiac arrest before drawning, that would be mentioned in the autopsy report, right?

Genuine question - how can an intoxicated person fill their bathtub with water? I have always wondered. I mean it requires certain amount of lucidity to fill a tub with water and get into it right... I never drink and even then find it a time consuming process

Why can't there be one Mega thread on Sridevi's demise instead of 100s vague ones which serve no purpose?

I think bathtub is such a confined space you can't expect her to float in it and even if we say that she was alive before drowning firstly it's highly unlikely for a healthy normal individual to drown in a bath tub even if she was in an inebriated state there must have been some sign of struggle there which should have been mentioned in the report. Because they mentioned cardiac arrest as a cause before so I deduced that could be possible that her heart stopped she lost conscious control and therefore the water got into her lungs cause there must be something that must have caused the drowning either an altered state of consciousness or death people just don't accidentally drown in a bathtub for no reason.

Cardiac arrest means the heart stops pumping and everything stops - there is no pulse, no breathing, no anything. Cardiac arrest was the definition of dead for centuries. Because that person would not be breathing, they could not drown. If her family spread the news of cardiac arrest, it wasn't technically a lie, clearly she did have cardiac arrest - her heart stopped beating.

I think you are really wondering about a heart attack, forgive me if I'm wrong. In a heart attack one or more small blood vessels taking blood to the heart muscle gets blocked or constricted and the heart may work less well or stop working altogether (cardiac arrest). If the heart worked less well but kept working, she might have lost consciousness but kept breathing, slid under the water and drowned. The autopsy should show the diseased arteries and damage to her heart muscle if it was the most common type of heart attack. The autopsy would definitely mention it.

We haven't seen the real autopsy report so I don't know what it says, all I have seen is loss of consciousness leading to drowning. There are many things that can cause you to lose consciousness. The fact they didn't say what exactly probably means they aren't sure yet what the causeed her to lose consciousness. I have never seen the amount of alcohol in her blood specified (heard both high and very low) but the toxicology results should show whether drugs or alcohol could have caused it but there are lots of other things that could have made her lose consciousness while bathing.

I am glad you don't drink! There are lots of misconceptions about alcohol, drugs and the people who use them. People who are so drunk they won't remember anything the next day, can and do continue to do lots of things - including driving and filling bath tubs. The blood alcohol level can be high enough that your brain can no longer form memories but remain conscious. That is what a "blackout is. I am NOT saying Sridevi was an alcoholic but to answer your question I am saying lots of alcoholics function in society and do not look like the stereotype of an alcoholic. Lots of people can appear sober while being off the charts intoxicated on blood tests.

@blue: ah, I didn't know about this.

Yes you are right, I was thinking about heart attack to be technically correct. Saw many on social media jumping on the alcohol/overdose angle, I wondered if a natural cause like a heart attack led to her drowning but thought if so, it would have been mentioned in the report. But as you said, the real one might not have been released yet and toxicology results can give the reason to why it happened. Thanks for the detailed explanation.
