i think the fault is all slb and his editors, where was padmavati in the movie? she looked gorgeous, had gorgeous outfits, had beautiful expressions but was given nothing to work with. I think malik kafur had more lines than padmavati or maharawal ratan singh. I think it takes longer to say maharawal ratan singh than the no of lines padmavati had.

for padmavati it was just a fashion show, and that too a glimpse, not even a real ramp walk, she had such pretty clothes, but she got no lingering shots, or screen time in any outfit! and shahid was given churidaar kurtas on purpose to look tinier,

every review said the first half was boring, and the second half picked up, the entire first half was supposedly setting up evil khilji, then how was he the best part of the movie?

ranveer was ok but how could anyone not come out ok out of that much grandstanding. every frame was set up in his favor, towering over others, with the high topi, the big shoulder pads, the big hair, the loose robes. the scenes with ranveer and his supporting characters were so much longer. his scenes with aditi, raza murad, jimmy were full scenes versus padmavati's choppy scenes that came out of nowhere in the first half. more than any other inspiration, the beast from beauty and the beast seems to have been slb visual, he can never be completely original.

and even with so much material given to ranveer and jimmy sarbh, i was left wanting for more shahid and deepika scenes. the beginning was so choppy in singhal, much must have been cut out with inc the best song naino wale song. binte dil and khali bali were horrible and weren't even needed at all in the questionable story, if there was a story in the movie.

and that was the worst part, there was no story, no love story, no basis for khilji's obsession. the entire movie was like a audition reel for ranveer, look what I can do in a villain's role. I knew from ram leela's oily ranveer introduction song, slb lusts after ranveer, and he has proven with all three movies. the first half with the sex scenes, the beheadings, the meat eating scenes were just plain vulgar, and slb coming free like kjo did with dostana.

where was the beauty of slb romance from hddcs sameer and nandini, the devdas chandramukhi scenes. i never like paro in devdas but compared to padmavati's character, she would be a oscar worthy character.

but to credit deepika padukone's beauty and the dress designers, and shahid's dialogue delivery, that the movie was not one you walked out after a half. even ranveer was ok but not all that has been said here, i.e. comparable to srk in darr, best character in the last 10 years etc, not even close. the actor who played the priest did creepier and scarier than ranveer as khilji.

I am a fan of deepika but she really is dumb to work with slb only for 2 years after he gave her a raw deal in bajirao mastani and do nothing else.
