Padmavaat got censor certificate thats why it was supposed to release in ALL states. If it doesn't got released in certain states due to violence then of course the onus falls on the Government ruling in those states..BJP is ruling in all those states so in centre. Forget about the movie for a minute. If your states are burning an appeal to maintain law and order is the least what the netizens can ask for. Where was that appeal?
Then centre states law and order is a state issue and we are not gonna intervene in that. So whats Centre without its state? Bizzare !!!

The centre-state relationship in India is a colloquial one. It is true that centre cannot directly interfere in state affairs. Only if the state Govt ask for help or is not able to handle the law n order situation is when Centre intervenes. They are essentially separate entities in the democratic system.

Secondly BJP is ruling in around 19 states in India. If this was a BJP imposed ban then why is this ban not on all 19 states? The reason the 5 states were burning was not because it was BJP ruled, but because these states have substantial rajput population to create a ruckus for this movie. So blaming BJP doesn't make any sense here.

The irony is none, absolutely none of the parties spoke up against karni sena action and now after the movie release everyone is finding a scapegoat to suit their whims.

And frankly the movie is doing well. This is where karni sena and similar fringe grips loses big time.

Here by keeping mum n banning the movie, the state government endorsed the fringe group's behavior. Also showed that its scared of these people. What precedence does it set for other more violent groups for future ??

The Dutch government kicked Ayan Hirsi Ali out of the country (on some bogus claims) who collaborated with the director in the movie

And people in the media practice self censorship and ostracize those who don't when it comes to one particular religion

Agree, no movie should be banned to appease one group... But vote bank politics in India doesn't allow it

Why did many Indian states ban the movie "Tha Davinci code"? It was not banned in America (was a hit movie) and Europe

Interesting trivia - India was the first country to ban Salman Rushdie's "Satanic versus" even before the Muslim countries did, even before the Iran Fatwa 😛

Oh, here comes the same old crap of intolerance.

The fact is we never were a very tolerant country as regards the governments in power. Since independence, all governments have indulged in banning books, movies, tacitly supporting agitations, and so on. And never forget how the most dangerous thing was started by none other than the golden boy of Indian politics - Rajiv Gandhi, when he banned Satanic verses of Salman Rushdie, even before Iran did it.

With the advent of social media - we are seeing a deluge of opinions all around us. Good, bad, moderate - they are all there, and hence, it feels like something is seriously wrong and it's a new phenomena. When in reality, it is not. Intolerance is as old as our independence.

And that's why these champagne walas are wrong when they talk about intolerance. Yes, this government is not free of fault in this matter. Especially the Haryana government for the way it handled the Karni Sena attack on the bus, but this is NOT new. Things were like this before 2014 and those who claim otherwise, are definitely speaking from a perspective of bias and prejudice against the current government.

I made similar comments without reading post 😊

At the same time - that is not a reason for us to be proud of. What happened during Padmavat protests was terrible and shouldn't be happening in a democracy. However, it is a fact that we as a people are one of the better ones. JNU was the best example.

Also during Yakub Memon's funeral in Mumbai there were lakhs of Muslims who had turned to pray for his souls. This was the same Mumbai that Yakub had mercilessly butchered. He and his friends had shown no mercy yet when lakhs belonging to his religion turned up for him, no one batted an eyelid. No one questioned them. In fact the Indians he hated so much moved mountains to delay his hanging.
This speaks a lot of this country's tolerance. It's not a perfect country in matters of free speech but to term it as the worst, shows your ignorance.

😕

And if they did, they might've been decimated in forums like these and in real life

How is it alright to have the film banned in 4 of the major hindi speaking states?😕

He is not cribbing about some fringe groups doing a morcha or pelting stones at one or two theaters and his movie's collections being dented because of it...

A movie being banned in 4 states in the biggest democracy of the world cannot be termed as 'everything is alright' from any angle...

Glad that the movie released as goons would then be ruling the country. But still most of them escaped from being imprisoned due to corrupt politicians.
