WTched it again...this time I liked shahid at some places...but I glued my eyes on Ranveer. This time I sensed one side love story of Khilji...Ranveer deserves best actor and villain category of all awards.

Still: even if you admire the film's craft, what can be said to a viewer incensed at the idea of a woman using self-immolation as a means of standing up for herself? Nothing. I sympathize and share the feelings of actress Swara Bhasker when she asserts, in an open letter to Bhansali, that "Women have the right to live, despite the death of their husbands, male 'protectors', 'owners', 'controllers of their sexuality'... whatever you understand the men to be. Women have the right to liveindependent of whether men are living or not." I also confess that Bhansali momentarily convinced me that, within the context of his drama, Padmavati's representative actions reflected her inner strength. "Padmaavat" is a rare work of pop art that is both powerful and repugnant.

I don't understand these kinds of reactions. Nobody thinks self-immolation is a fantastic idea. It's not like Bhansali is advocating for women to do this NOW. He is telling a story from centuries ago, when this was one of a woman's few options to save herself from suffering and humiliation.

Oh well. This success of the film is amazing!! I am so, so happy for the whole team!!!

Does anyone know why Padmavati seemed like she was crying in that question and answer session with Raghav Chetan? What was there to cry about? I didn't quite get that scene.

Don't know if it was Deepika's acting or the character was written in such a way.. but most of the time, it looked like Padmavati was about to burst into tears.. 😕 Her eyes were always red and watery..

"Difficult to make an impact as a positive, righteous character" shahid kapoor hhahahahhaahahah hats of ranveer salman and others made impact

True that he is seriously giving some random statements . Prabhas did that beautifully in Baahubali..
Also his comment about it being difficult to convey things without dialogue. He had some of the best dialogues in the film.

it was Deepika and Aditi who had to convey with minimal dialogues.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial Padmaavat' starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, released in cinemas worldwide on 25th January 2018. Based on 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi's epic poem Padmavat, Padmaavat showcases the valor of Rani Padmavati, Maharawal Ratan Singh and the famed Rajput ethos of honour, bravery and sacrifice.

The blockbuster film was well received across international markets, ranking as the number three film globally over the past weekend and breaking into the top 10 UK Box Office charts.

The film received a 4 star review from British newspaper The Guardian, where it was described as a gloriously stirring spectacle'. We loved here at BollySpice giving the film 5 stars!

With this positive reception, Padmaavat' is already setting new records at the international box-office records amidst equally great reviews from audience and critics alike.

After the opening weekend, a new song from Padmaavat featuring Ranveer Singh who plays the role of Sultan Alauddin Khilji has also been released KhaliBali sung by Shivam Pathak with music by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and lyrics by A M Turaz .

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmaavat' stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh & Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji.

Set in 1303 AD medieval India, Padmaavat is the story of honour, valour and obsession. Queen Padmavati is known for her exceptional beauty along with a strong sense of justice and is the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh and pride of the Kingdom of Chittor, a prosperous kingdom in the north west of India. The legend of her beauty reaches the reigning sultan of Hindustan Allaudin Khilji.

The sultan who is a tyrant, is fixated with wanting anything that is of exceptional beauty for himself. He lays siege on the impregnable fortress of Chittorgarh. After a gruelling 6 months, he returns empty handed. He becomes obsessed and now wants to capture Chittor and its Queen at any cost. He returns with a bigger army and ranging fury. He attacks Chittor with brutal force and a bloody and fearsome battle takes places between the righteous Maharawal Ratan Singh defending his kingdom and the honour of his queen and Sultan Allaudin Khilji. Khilji manages to breach the fortress but in vain as the Queen chooses to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect her dignity.

Padmaavat is out now at your nearest cinema!

MY REVIEW-PADMAVATI

So finally after all the hullabaloo, this movie has finally seen the light of the day and surprisingly I really enjoyed watching the same despite some reviews suggesting otherwise. This was a visual extravaganza like nothing else aided by some pretty phenomenal performances. 👏 Few things that stuck with me-

* The manner in which the entire story unfolded right from the beginning until the very end. It might be argued that the storyline was weak or there wasn't anything much substantial but SLB's vision according to me came shining through; of Padmavati's courage and love, of Rawal Ratan Singh's valour and principles and of sheer terror of a man that is Alauddin Khilji and mainly the underlying reason behind that heartbreaking choice. Got goosebumps, to say the least.

*My respect for Rajputs rose tenfold for their courage, conviction, valour and their sheer tenacity. Shahid has done a fabulous job as Raja Rawal Ratan Singh. He was every inch the Rajput ruler, with his amazing body language and the chemistry between him and Deepika was something else!

*RANVEER SINGH. I will fall short of words to describe his performance. Words aren't enough honestly, it has to be witnessed onscreen for he was that good. I am awed by the way he portrayed Alauddin Khilji who is without doubt one of the most vile, barbaric and horrifying characters that I have ever come across being portrayed onscreen and Ranveer has played this with aplomb. Standing ovation from my end! 👏👏

*Deepika was every inch the Queen as well and I loved how she effortlessly fit into the role and there were many praiseworthy sequences which I do not wish to spoil for those who haven't watched yet. My only concern in certain sequences were her redder than usual eyes which was slightly distracting in the closeup shots but nevertheless she was good and I wished that there would be more of her to see.

*Supporting actors like Jim Sarbh (how awesome is he! Terrific chemistry between him and Ranveer), Raza Murad and even Aditi were aptly cast and special mention to the as always gorgeous sets, costumes and the BG score that is very typical of a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film.

Overall I'll recommend this movie for it is definitely a one time watch for anyone who would want to know and understand how that era was and despite everything, how strong brave and courageous those women were which has in a way paved way for how it is today. All those years before, those women made their choice to keep their honour intact and when I see it in today's context, I see that has manifested in the form of be it the #MeToo movement, Feminism as a concept or even the mere fact of women standing up for each other and trying to fight the patriarchal mindset in whatever way possible.

To me this is the essence of Padmavati. Rating 3.5/5.

Same here
Deepika was good though
She was the only one who made me feel for the character
Rest of them were all average including ranveer
My expectations from him were sky high but I have to say I was a little disappointed...perhaps its got to do with the character that he was playing ...unconvjncing...very OTT

besides never believed in khilji's lust for padmavati especially when everyone knew he was gay to begin with...and bhansali portrayed him as lover boy yearning for someone he hasn't even seen..I am not being able to digest bhansali's version of khilji who was a cruel invader historically speaking. His job was to loot, plunder invade kingdoms and that's what he did in chittor...nothing to do with love or lust for padmavati.

I wish bhansali had stayed true to history instead of romanticising the invasions of barbarians in such appalling manners...🥱

Having said that I loved each n every frame of the movie. It's a visual treat has to be experienced on big screen. Those who are boycotting due to whatever reasons are missing out something which is very rare to come by.

I will be going third time this weekend⭐️
