What a lovely, endearing, and happy movie!
Sulu is such a sweetheart...a bored homemaker who wants to fly...and fly she does! Of course, even though she has a supportive husband, her job starts pinching him and her family...him, more because he's absolutely frustrated with his own job. The movie doesn't spell it out for you, but the double standards and higher expectations are there to see in the little instances ...when her husband says let's have another child, it's her fault that her son misbehaves, etc. It's more in the Hrishikesh Mukherjee realm...in the hands of another director we might have gotten a much darker movie.
While I didn't love the climax, I did like the resolution at the end -- a family must eventually work together to get through the tough times and come to a compromise so that everyone is happy.
The middle class milieu is so amazingly explored in this movie!
Pankaj was absolutely hilarious...Manav Kaul was fantastic as Ashok -- the husband who wants to be supportive but struggles. His chemistry with Vidya is lovely as well, such a lived in feel. Neha Dhupia is also lovely as Maria ma'am. Maasi twins were irritating but but also very typical.
And Vidya...what to say ❤️ Her face is perhaps the most expressive, beautiful face in the industry IMO..such charm when she comes on. She's one of the rare few actors who makes you laugh and cry along with her. She's simply pitch perfect as Sulu and her voice modulation is just amazing. Love love love love love her! Welcome back, Miss Balan! ❤️
