Even if it is fiction, you cannot just distort someone's folklore or inspiration. You cannot bas***dise someone's idol.

Mahabharata is fiction but how would someone like it if they made Ram gay or Sita a lesbian? It's just utterly absurd.

Why not... I have read so many historical fiction novels that will give a unique twist by making a real history character Gay/spy/illegitimate even a mutant...

You take a point in history and change facts around it and it's such an interesting book...

But guess what nothing of that sorts exists about indian history.. No historical fiction which is part true and part fictional writing

Not to mention the variations and adaptations of myths and folklore that are written

We are Stifling creativity in the name of hurting sentiments... No one can attempt anything new without fear of Offending some fanatic group...

I will wait.
So far, it is some party leader's statement. There is no official statement from the government (which asks filmmaker to compromise). So far, no theatre has been vandalised. (If so, I could have blamed the government for not acting).

I see a lot of people confusing "historical fiction" with pure "fiction".
A history book is meant to be a truthful account. Names, places, dates, events are as accurate as feasible. A lot of time and effort is spent to research and document the content

A fictional book is meant to be an imagined account. Names, places, dates, events are created by the author. There is not much time and effort spent in research.

Historical fiction is a hybrid of history and fiction. The author takes a blend of one or more real names, places, dates, events and weaves an imaginary fictitious tale around it. Historical fiction may sometimes complement or supplement history, but historical fiction is never ever a replacement for history. As such it should never be seen as a source of truth.

Sometimes it is well researched factual and accurate like "Devil in the White City" which even though fictional is a highly accurate account of serial killer HH Holmes.

Sometimes it is a fictional story in a historical setting like "Gone with the Wind" which is a love story set in times of civil war, the characters are pure fiction but events around them are very real.

Sometimes it is a fictional story about historical people like "Girl with the Pearl Earring" is a fictional story about real people, the characters actually existed, but there is no way to verify the narrative.

Sometimes it is delves into impossible and absurdity like "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter" which is stunningly accurate in its characters, places, dates, and events - but makes the Confederates vampires.

Padmavati the book itself is a work of historical fiction. Allaudin Khilji laid seige on Chittor in 1303. History became legend, legend became myth. Padmavat was published in 1540 based on the mythical accounts of jauhar. All historians agree there is no basis for truth in it. Rani Padmavati is plausible but not 100% a real person. Secondly, the movie is a filmmakers interpretation of an already interpreted piece of historical fiction.

To ask fiction to conform to a reality - that too a nonexistent reality is absurd.

Padmavati: Election Commission refuses to stall film's release; Chittorgarh observes bandh

As per TV reports, the Election Commission (EC) has refused to stall the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming period drama Padmavati following Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Gujarat's letter to the EC requesting the ban on or postponement of the film's release.

Instead, the EC has sought a report from the poll panel on the issues the Rajput representatives have with the depiction of their culture and history in Padmavati.

The Times of India reports that the purpose of the pre-release screening was to "alleviate their raised tempers and provide fair opportunity to prevent unnecessary tension ahead of polls." The same report quotes BJP spokesman and Kshatriya leader I K Jadeja as saying, "The party would prefer that Padmavati is either banned or its release postponed in poll-bound Gujarat." While the film is slated to release on 1 December, the Gujarat polls will take place on 9 and 14 December. Meanwhile, the protests in Rajasthan continue. A bandh is being observed in Chittorgarh as a mark of protest against Padmavati's release.

Shri Rajput Karni Sena has been protesting against the film's release throughout this year as they believe that the period drama distorts historical facts pertaining their community. In October, a group of miscreants even destroyed a huge Padmavati-inspired rangoli that a Surat artist created on the occasion of Diwali. The action was condemned by the lead actress of the film Deepika Padukone, who plays the titular role of Rani Padmini.

Padmavati
also stars Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor as Sultan Alauddin Khilji and Maharawal Ratan Singh respectively. It also stars Jim Sarbh and Aditi Rao Hydari. It is co-produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Bhansali Productions. The Hollywood Reporter states that Paramount Pictures will distribute the film in the USA as well as globally, outside India.

itna protest nahi hota toh slb khilji ka dream scene add he kar detay 🥱

Since there is no dream sequence or interaction between khilji and padmavati, So this is how slb will show story.

Ratan singh is married to nagmati, and he saves padmavati, and they get married. Now nagmati is angry because padma can do ghumar (some what like bajirao - mastani track). Now this news will go viral, and khilji will download ratan singh picture since he is gay and decides to kidnap ratan singh. Now padma and her friends will disguise and save ratan singh while khilji was having good time with kafur, that's when khilji will get furious and decides to attack their kingdom. In the end Khilji and kafur will live happily ever after. No 1 to disturb 😉😆
