Same here. Love his trailers but that's about it. Can't sit through his movies. The sets are fantastic and visually the movies are beautiful but for me substance wise it feels very shallow. The actors are forever screeching out every emotion and there is no subtlety or nuance that is t spelled out loudly. I enjoyed him dil de child sanam second half though bcoz I thought Ajay Devgan bought dignity and subtlety beautifully. Bajirao mastaani, I let bored. Nothing was exciting.. the way they fell in love, the palace intrigues everything felt flat but yeah priyanka shone

The spell check🤣

I gotta ask.. is there anyone who thought the characters Bajirao and Mastani were anything but despicable? Anyone who thought their relationship was love goals? ❤️

IMO Priyanka as Kashi saved that film because otherwise it was the tale of a husband besotted with his mistress and making nonsense decisions. What legendary love story? Gimme a break. Except.. why did it do so well man? I don't get it ! 🤢 😆

SLB is a representation of what defines success in Bollywood. Good looks, good looks, and...GOOD LOOKS. Glam. Sham. Colors. Be it actors or stories, if you LOOK good enough, people are game.
Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani were such 1 dimensional films that lacked content. But guess what? Since they cinematography was so beautiful, music bang on, and big stars, audiences lapped it up.

Cinematography is SLB's forte and now he knows it. And on the basis of that, all his films are gonna do well. Who cares about the storyline or screenplay when you just gotta get good looking people in good looking outfits and put it on a grand canvas?

The only thing I liked in that film was Kashibai. The Mastani-Bajirao love story was so pathetic. Maybe in SLB's mind it was so great, of course. Maybe I am the lame here. 😆

I remember as a kid dying to watch Devdas FDFS - dragged my family to see it, but it gave me a headache, I wasn't ready for Sumitra's loud ass and all the melodrama. And although I appreciate it a lot more now, I can see why people are put off by it.
Similarly with RL and BM, they were splendid and exquisite but also over-drawn and over-bearing. But that's what you get with an artist - a frustrated artist I'd even go as far as to say. But without his madness, we wouldn't get the magic either.
So I've learned to appreciate what he tries to present, because there is much more good than the bad.
I think HDDCS is the only SLB film I have continued to fully enjoy over the years.

SLB movies which I could sit through: Khamoshi, Black, HDDCS, Guzaarish and BM(at theater, at TV it looks blah as the story or screenplay is not enough to hold interest without the spectacle which can be experience at theater).

Yeah, I got excited to see BM but after watching it I hated it. I love the beautiful sets and what not, but at the end of the day I hate the stories of his films. I am keeping my expectations on Padmavati at zero, even though I am excited to see it? I am just conflicted, I guess! 😆 Anyone in the same boat as me?

I despise SLB as a director. Out of all his films, I think I can watch Devdas and HDDCS. And it took a couple of years for me to appreciate what he did with Devdas, because I couldn't understand what they were even saying the first few times I saw it😆

His colossal weakness is love stories. He tries to make them these "tragic" things but he fails to create the foundation needed to justify the tragedy. RamLeela was utterly horrid. BM was a soapy love triangle which was expected based on that trailer. But was the "love story" between Bajirao & Mastani that epic? Oh hell no, it was just a bunch of cheaters who wanted to be selfish. And *spoiler alert*, they didn't need to be killed off at the end of the movie at the same time😆

From what I can tell, there's less of that "love story" angle from the PV trailer, and more an emphasis on villainy and "good vs evil". I think the conflict between the two male leads might actually salvage this film. It sucks for me, I'm a huge fan of Ranveer but I totally despise SLB...so it's like 4 years now that I'm stuck with this combination😆
