Overrated to the core! Like others mentioned KK and Shaan are better and way underrated in this forum. Glad he isn't singing much these days. I wish the same for Arijit also do overrated and annoying.

Nopes, I don't find Sonu Nigam over-rated. I feel he has much more potential and music directors should use more of his versatile voice. I love his voice, its a kind which can fit on anyone. Its neither too soft nor too hard. So he can sing most songs, on most actors and won 't look bad paying tribute to legends of yesteryears.

I won't compare him with Mohd.Rafi or any past legendary singer. As we all know they are beyond comparison and hardly anyone can touch them. But Sonu is the closest to Mohd.Rafi & Kishore Kumar, even Manna Dey kind singers. I don't think any other singer, his contemporary and modern singers can make a good attempt to sing their songs even as a tribute. Evem if they do, it won't touch hearts. But Sonu manages to touch hearts nevertheless.

As for him singing like Mohd.Rafi, art forms especially have chances of idolising and getting inspired from someone. Like, Amitabh Bachchan's trademark dance movement, is taken from 40s-early 50s star Bhagwan dada's dance. But we dont say he dances like him , or tried to act like Dilip Kumar. Because eventually they did evolve and made their own style.

As for today's stars, I don't love any male singer, in live performance and versatility, they are behind.

2. Around, 14.00 minutes,Prasoon Joshi says Sonu himself is quite good in classical and that side of his very few people know. In response, Sonu says "maine itna vidhiwat nahi hai zyaada. maine sun sun kar bahut seekha hai...par maine seekha nahi hai itna." That's how he sees himself, so if nothing else, I do respect his humility.

I'd first heard him when I was 12yrs old, he had just gotten famous. he'd come to our town and I was mesmerised by his "Gurur Brahma" which he sang in beginning. he sound awesome even without instruments support in live music.

P.S.: Although I do agree, songs like Kal Ho Na Ho don't need extra classical touch.
