I saw a bad copy and thought it was alright.
My point is production houses can't say there is no market for the horror genre in the country.

The problem is the domestic horror films made are erotic horrors and complete garbage. That is why audiences reject it. Skin show, bad special effects and acting does can not save movies.

India can never make a good horror/suspense movie till they keep trying to copy the west! India is a land of so many mysteries, myths, legends and many horror stories too in the forms of lok kathas and all. Why don't movies try to explore all these. There was a movie called paheli which was based on a lok katha and it had a beautiful story, only the direction wasn't that good, but anyways bollywood has stopped being creative a long time back! Right now it's obsessed with biopics, cheap love stories and what not?

I wonder why JJ wasn't a hit then. It was quite horrific to watch Ranbir play a teenager.

It's only the Conjuring franchise which has been able to grow a fanbase in India. Other Hollywood horror films like Lights Out or Don't Breathe have not done any great business here.
But yeah, I agree that horror films too have an audience in India(I being one of them), but they are mostly in B and C centers. So the makers add skin show to make it more appealing to the target audience.
Also the makers don't think of adding too much creativity in.the storyline or the haunting scenes.
Well, Horror movies can't be much creative is a general myth. So they rely too much on jump scares which may make the audience scared for a moment... but the movie doesn't stay with them after they come out of the theatres.

India does have market for well made horrror movies.

Why movies there were also so many TV shows like Aahat, Mano ya na Mano, Woh...which big hits

Even RGV had success with his few horror movies. Ramsay brothers too.

The movies like Haunted 3D, 1920, & 1920 Evil Returns were hits/above average, despite having no skin show or sex scenes. The movies had low budgets so that helped them to cover the costs, but that doesn't take away from the fact there is a market for such movies in India.

I think IT which is releasing next month is going to be another hit in India. Trailer was great and early reviews are also raving about the film
