"Dil Hain Ke Maanta Nahin", based on "Chori Chori", in turn based on "It Happened One Night" all narrate the tale of a woman in a committed relationship disapproved by her family falling for the guy who helps her get to her beau.
"Astitva" is based on a married woman having an affair with her music instructor.
"Sweet Home Alabama" is all about a woman estranged from her husband getting engaged to another man, going back home to get divorced, and eventually getting back with her husband.
"Imagine Me And You" is about a married woman falling for the wedding florist.
Swedish film "Kiss Me" is about an engaged woman falling for her father's new girlfriend's daughter.
"Masti" and "Biwi No.1" and several other Bollywood movies dealt with philandering husbands eventually forgiven by their wives.
Infidelity has been a plot point in cinema across the world. Indians too have lapped up infidelity several times. I think the make or break factor is the believability, relatability, and sympathy factor. Also, people are more likely to digest male cheaters rather than female cheaters.
