There is nothing wrong in your understanding, it is definitely a regressive movie. I despise the fact that society tolerates Man's casual affairs or his extra or premarital sexual relationship saying that men are tend to do all this , but the same society consider women sinner if she indulge in pre or extra marital or casual affairs. I literally felt frustrated when Veronica tries to become Meera by making Biriyani or by picking Saif's clothes for laundry .

When Veronica said only I knew the value of him , I was like what value , he is nothing but a coward and a double standard guy .

That movie was so bad, I didn't even feel like analysing it.

For me, the most W*F part was watching 2 gorgeous, amazing women fight over Saif! And I am not even talking about his looks or how much older he is than them. There was just nothing likeable about his character in the movie.

To be honest yes! Saif's character was very regressive. He falls for Meera because she is a sanskaari girl and a girl who parties is labelled as a "wh**e". But the songs and performances were good. Deepika stole the show for me as Veronica. ⭐️

When the trailer came out, they said it wasn't the usual love story. So, I thought it must not have the usual love triangle. While watching, I was hoping that Deepika's character would want to be Saif's wife after meeting his mother, because she wants to have a family. Since we saw that her parents are least interested in her life, I thought she must crave for some family and must have felt that marriage with Saif would give her that. So, she would want to marry him for that reason but also keeping it clear about not loving him.
But, in the movie the same old happened. She fell in love. I don't know how that love story is different from the thousand other such stories already written and filmised in BW. That was my main problem with the movie -- it was nothing different. False promises and all that.

But yes, when Saif told Meera about how he wanted to touch her waist which no one has the permission to see, I thought that was the worst line of the whole movie. And the whole idea otherwise was pretty regressive. Could have done so much better. If the best filmmakers of this country can only come up with this crap in the name of different, then no wonder that BW is in such a bad position today.

And I guess , that is the main reason people loved Deepika in this movie, cause Veronica was at least honest .

None of the characters were likable.

Gautam was a chauvinistic a$$hole, Meera was typical saanskari meethichuri and Veronica the despo.😕 Only felt a little bad for Veronica & didn't understand why she was so obsessed with a loser like Gautam when she could have gotten anyone she wanted. I think she lacked self-esteem.

Veronica was never in love with Gautam; she was in love with the IDEA of stability, family, home and the IDEA of love. It was discussed her parents were absent in her life and were never there for her.
It was only when she met Gautam's mom and his family that she suddenly developed this need to BE with him. Before that, it was the same Gautam and she never really loved him. Just was attracted to him and doing time pass. Even mentioned to Meera that guys like gautam are a dime a dozen.

Meera was the one who actually began to have feelings for Gautam after seeing how he supported her and having conversations. Gautam fell for Meera not coz she's a sati savitri. He actually fell for her the first time when he watched her dance without any inhibitions after she was drunk.

I think the movie should have emphasized those things a little better. But the idea was never to like Meera coz she's a sati savitri

She was staying with someone who helped her out when she was on the streets... To "fall" for the friend's man is sick 🤢🤢 And worse part was deepika's character crying over him! 🥱

I felt so bad for Veronica only as she did not deserve rejection
But then again Gautham did not deserve either of them as well

Yeah totally agree, Gautham did not deserve Veronica or Meera and Veronica someone much better than Gautam. For me Deepika;s performance as Veronica was the biggest take away from the film, she was really good, I felt really bad for her and she was amazing in that scene before she gets hit by the car, But she accepted it with a loot of pain .

The two girls fighting over Gautam was hard to believe. But i enjoyed the film.

I am confused between Love aaj kal and Cocktail because of same actors. I will have to watch again to see if it is regressive.
This sundar susheel has been happening in Bollywood since so long.
