For me, it's only true love from Anjali's (Kajol) side.
Though I liked the movie at that time because of the SRK-Kajol pairing, now I don't. I don't why but suddenly I was thinking of the aforementioned question today. 😆 And I felt that KKHH didn't really portray true love. I felt that only Anjali was truly in love. She loved him enough to give up her love for him when she found out that she loved someone else. Loved him constantly throughout the years, even when she found out that he was a father to a kid (I'm saying this as not everyone is accepting of a partner who had previously married someone and had a kid with them in fear of being secondary in their lives). She accepted Rahul with his quirks and flaws.
Rahul's (SRK) love is a question mark for me. He did not love Anjali when she was a tomboy. He only was attracted/ in 'love" with her later when she became more feminine (wearing a saree) and more demure. I feel that it was not only about becoming more mature. You can be mature and a tomboy at the same time. Plus, at times, I feel that he liked Tina (RM) for the same reason. It was not only about the compatibility of minds and personalities as Rahul and Anjali were equally/ more compatible. Was it true love from his side? And is it possible to love 2 people at once? Did he 'love' Tina and Anjali equally? In this way, I felt Aman (though I'm not a SK fan) loved Anjali more truly as he willingly sacrificed his love for her happiness. Also, I feel that Rahul and Anjali from K3G had more depth to their love (though still melodramatic) than the Rahul and Anjali in KKHH as the former Rahul loved and accepted Anjali for being a chatterbox and tomboyish as well.
Another point I did not like was the fact that Tina felt that she came in between Rahul and Anjali. Would Rahul have loved Anjali if she did not enter the scene? I doubt that as Rahul only started looking at Anjali romantically once she became more feminine.
I don't know but I feel that (though I liked at that time) this movie is very shallow and it seems to send across the message that a woman would only be loved if she's feminine and not a tomboy. I feel that all women today have a bit of tomboy in them at least and that society's standard of femininity is frankly stupid and being feminine doesn't necessarily make you a good person.
Would this movie have worked if SRK-Kajol were not starring in this movie? I feel that the movie ran due to their chemistry and not really the content.
P.S. I changed the name of the topic as I felt that this was more appropriate and this was the burning question for me.
