You feel that she's acting fine in the movies given to her on a platter by KJo...but I don't think so. She spoils the roles with her unnatural acting. In Udta Punjab her bihari accent and acting were terrible. In SOTY, BKD, HSKD, Kapoor n sons, Shandaar,etc...she just does the same unnatural OTT acting.She doesn't show any variations at all! Kajol started acting in 1992 and KJo started directing in 1998. Kajol was a successful actress even before KJo started directing...whereas Alia's whole career has been gifted by KJo.How many movies does she have outside Dharma?

It's not that Karan Johar is doing charity and just handing movies to Alia out of the sheer goodness of his heart. He works with Alia because she is good! She's young and acts well and taps into a new generation of the audience that he wants for Dharma. For her young age, she's done such a varied number of roles from Udta Punjab to Highway to Dear Zindagi and excelled in all of them.

KJo is not a fool to keep working with anyone who has nothing to offer for his kind of movies. They can't be discounted just because he made them.

Parineeti didn't fail because she didn't have KJo. She had YRF and did multiple movies with them! She messed up because she started obsessing about looking hot and sexy and wanting to do those types of roles and wasting time on all her weight loss shenanigans. She even turned down movies like Piku. How is that anyone else's fault?

Nobody can make anyone else. I don't think it is an appropriate way of looking at things. Neither SRK nor Kajol made Karan Johar either. Or vice versa. He became successful because he brought a newness in terms of style and modernity in BW after the trashy 80's movie era. Nobody can save a bad movie either. Kajol didn't save any of those horrible movies she did with Ajay either.

Why did you bring Jenny up on this thread? how is she related to this topic? What's the connection? and IDC if you bash or dislike her, and you're completely mistaken if you think I'm fan of J.Winget. Yes, I do like watching her but not a Stan of hers. So, bringing her up on this thread is beyond my understanding. I like many other TV actresses too not only Jennifer.

Besides that acting is subjective not a factual thing. Like you think Kajol is a crappy overrated actress fine, but to me she's one of the all time greats & She's a fine actress but I found Manisha extremely hammy in Mann etc films. and yes I loved Jenny's acting in SC & Beyhadh. I can't change your opinion, you can't change mine either. We don't share same opinions on Kajol/Manisha so let's agree to disagree.

And Raveena's NA win was as legitimate as was Saif/Akshay winning NA.

As for Alia, she acts well in good scripts, she is well put together, groomed.

Give her a look like Kajol had in the KJO classic KKHH with the silly wig, barely groomed, lines like "Shaadi ek baar hota hain" and then have the hero fall in love with her the minute he sees her in a sari. KKHH is complete nonsense. Yet it still works 20 years later because of the gazebo scene and the two actors who had blazing chemistry which is two actors who are perfectly in sync. Who do not need music or dialog, not just look good together.

Kajol's speciality is making you not hate her when you cry with her as she cries for the Baazigar, a man who ruthlessly and without remorse murdered her innocent sister.

Alia needs a good script to act. Else she is meh. Kajol's speciality is making an ordinary role extraordinary because she is in it.

I now know that Kajol is limited in terms of what she does and she only chooses to work in roles she is comfortable with rather than challenging herself. But, one thing I can't deny is that her characters are her own, nobody can say "oh this character would have been just as same if it was done by rani, or karishma, etc." She puts a stamp on her character through her acting, whether it be anjali in KKHH or KKKG, or simran, etc. It's just nice to watch an actor have such fierce presence on screen that can be admired even after decades. Idk acting is subjective, but for me, Kajol is the best natural actor I have ever seen, her acting is not artificial at all unlike the current generation "natural" actors. It comes completely effortlessly to her and she connects with audiences' hearts easily. Wish she does a good hindi movie soon!
