I truly enjoyed the movie so much and really want a sequel to the movie.
Not for a second did I think it was a movie it was so real and could feel being in Jagga's world. What a beautifully shot movie, the location, the mini jhalak of northeast, the outdoor location of moombakta everything was on point.
RK was Jagga I couldn't see RK the actor but a 19 year old jagga. He was effortless and didn't go OT with the stutter. He is a brilliant actor and should continue being one.
Kat finally was Shruti and not some flower pot. A meaningful role acted perfectly. Just the right amount of goofiness and cuteness. She was really good.
Bagchi how much did I want to see the actor in another movie after Kahani. What an actor man, do hope he gets his due for the act of his.
All other characters like Sinha, Jagga's friends, all were on point.

The 1st part of the movie was so good. Throughout the 1st half I was entertained and the way he solves the mysteries didn't drag so it was more enjoyable.
The 2nd half started on high note dipped a little and picked up again.
The end twist was not expected at all. Need a sequel asap.
4.5 from me

I would call it a teen movie.
Not for very young kids since you need to keep up with the songs and relate back and forth.

Jagga Jasoos

This movie definitely does not deserve to be the flop it is going to be. Nor does it deserve to be panned by critics or audiences. I agree, that the film is not without flaws. In fact, the flaws do seriously dampen the good. However, this is a new genre for India and there are many positives.

The initial orphan scenes reminded me a lot of classic musicals like Annie. It was reminiscent of Singing in the Rain too. My sister said it reminded her of Wes Anderson, which I totally agree with. There is a Wes Anderson level of surreal and absurd humor.

The film is beautifully shot. Several scenes are exquisitely framed. There is a great balance between breathtaking scenery and human portraits. Some transitions are cute and lovely.

Ranbir Kapoor, as usual, is a masterclass. He is such a natural performer. His expressions, his body language, the way he talks and moves. He truly brings Jagga to life. People complain about nepotism, but Ranbir Kapoor is a stellar actor who deserves to be in the industry. Katrina Kaif is hilarious as his sidekick and foil. She is a laugh riot executing comic scenes with impeccable timing. Saswata Chatterjee provides ample support. You wish a performer like him got meatier roles.

The music is effervescent and fun, carrying the film through. The story is interesting with a nice medley of action, adventure, and comedy.

My personal favorite of the film is the Ranbir-Katrina chemistry. Despite their relationship being purely platonic throughout the film, their chemistry is perfect. It goes to show that you do not need sexual tension or romance to carry a film. Their friendship is far better developed, far more endearing, and far more enjoyable than love stories in films these days. It makes sense. It flows. You root for them. They have common threads. It is nothing like the absurd forced romance Bollywood tends to indulge in.

Now for the flaws. It is evident that the musical genre is new to India. The execution is shoddy and unpolished. There are issues with lip syncing. The singing scenes are poorly edited. The transition with talking is rough. You never really get used to the musical.

The biggest downer for the film is narrative and editing. There is just way too much packed into this one film. There are way too many events, people, and subplots. The result is a story that drags in parts and rushes through the rest. So much time is spent in the buildup that the climax is rushed and unsatisfying.Clearly, due to the length and the challenge of musical dialogue, the editing suffers. The editor is just not able to snip it to a seamless film.

The current film should have been cut into a trilogy
Part 1 - Deals with Jagga'sbackground story and the first mystery he solves
Part 2 - His chance encounter with Shruti and the mystery they solve together
Part 3 - Where Jagga and Shruti go to find his father

I am absolutely convinced that three shorter films covering these parts of the narrative would have resulted in a successful series and they could even have launched a companion comic book series to go with the film.

I totally understand why it will flop or underperform, but kudos to the attempt.

Edit to add: Also kudos for the NE setting and incorporating NE characters and music.

I'm reading the reviews posted on this thread right now and I can't help but muse the reviews are such an anti-thesis of that of ADHM. Critics more or less appreciated ADHM but forumites didn't whereas the critics don't seem like a big fan of JJ but the forum peeps are liking it. 😆

Bhardwaz Rangan and Ani Guha's words for RK should mean the world to him. I mean he's probably the only mainstream actor to have mustered such overwhelming, consistent appreciation throughout his career. This film. despite the final verdict, gives me hope for Dutt, which is RK's acid test as far as acting is concerned. If he nails that, I believe he will be way ahead of his contemporaries.

Now back to reading! 😆
