i have forgotten some of these movies but it gives an interesting overall perspective of all three... this forum is so ruled by fan wars that sometimes one tends to forget the choices of some of these stars..the risks they each took... some risks paid off.. some risks flopped...

you think tiger can be added to this list? arjun/tiger/sushant can be third category

has anyone discussed what some of these stars like to do based on their choice of movies?

Consistency is good, but in the movie industry, you'd rather deliver a blockbuster and an average fare, over two decent hits. It's how high the highs are - not how low the lows are.

Judwaa 2 will answer a lot of questions.

Someone get to OP back here but I'm pretty sure no one besides the Khans has crossed 200 crore. It's why Anushka's PR claims her to be only actress with more than one 200 crore grosser and not Deepika. Ranbir will be chasing that milestone till Dutt I think. I believe BM made more than YJHD but still fell short of 200, might have crossed it had Diwale not clashed.

Akshay has the most number of hits amongst all actors active today. In fact, by the end of their careers (as leads), Akshay might have a healthy lead over the Khans. But that doesn't make him a bigger star or draw than the Khans - because those Khans have delivered monumental hits.

With Varun, the case is the same. He's been here for five years now. In their first five years, Sanju, Sunny, Anil, Jackie, Govinda, Salman, SRK, Aamir, Akshay, Ajay, Hrithik, etc. had all delivered blockbusters or huge grossers. Not to undermine Varun's super successes. That said, the benchmark is those big hits.

Varun hasn't given a big hit like YJHD. In fact, Ranbir is among the few actors whose film has notched 2+ crores footfalls. Varun's best, so far, is Dilwale.

This is the problem plaguing Bollywood right now. There are actors who are becoming bankable like Varun is, but apart from the usual suspects, no star (or director) is able to deliver blockbusters. Since Varun debuted, there have been only four blockbusters not featuring the Khans - and three of them came in the same year (2013).

Many of your points aren't so true

Barring Salman, SRK, Ajay and Akshay, rest didn't deliver BB in their first 5 years. They has super hits and stuff but never amongst top 2 or 3

You're talking as if Ranveer or Ranbir have deleivered amongst top grossers of the year. YJHD and Bajirao did score big on excellent WOM especially the later one.

Indeed Varun has to deliver a blockbuster but also needs to continue that BO pull and success ratio balanced. YJHD onwards Ranbir delivered 3 tragic flops and possibly a biggest disaster of all time. Bombay Velvet lifetime collection was few cr ahead YJHD's opening day. Also to note YJHD came in 7th year for Ranbir. Same applies for Bajirao, with great WOM he got his big grosser but that's got movie had amazing war scenes and well mounted sets. If you take them out of movie, it'd lose people's interest. Bigger the budget was, grander the sets was, better the collections was. Despite grossing 180cr the movie still was declared hit.

As for Varun - his films don't always carry best WOM but manages a hit due to opening day and weekend. Which tells much about his starpower. Constancy is important for a star to be proven better over others. I mean if you're talking about delivering blockbusters then sure ARK also delivered Aashiqui 2 😆

Varun's success ratio is highly commendable, judwaa should take him ahead of RK.

Ranbir Kapoor is really an amazing actor. none can deny the fact that Ranbir acts so well, he is like water, wherever u pour him, he will come out as best from that. He is a natural actor. but his talent is not being invested in right place all time. His choice of films sometimes result as disaster.

in another side I can say Varun is a complete performer. u will not believe but when I saw him first time in SOTY trailer, I told my sis- Likh lo meri baat, yeh Banda bohat aage tak jaayega. He acts good that's too when its his debut film. recently I saw Dhishoom, I loved his role, he is too good in comic role also.

BM really did not have a great WOM...it had more of a hype and the desire to show DW in a bad light since it was clashing with the movie of a superstar and the desire to see the superstar fail...the hype for BM was so much that it cost KK his best director award for BB and the best movie award for BB...does anyone really think that SLB was a better director for BM or that BM was better than BB😆😆...but yeah the hype killed it...some of the same people who had hyped BM as a movie par excellence...later trashed the movie😆😆...I think if not for the clash...BM would have made in the range of RL only...it got lucky that a superstar's movie clashed with it with everyone's desire to see the newbie win ...😛

Why is bira still in the list bro?
He made his debut in 2007 , RS in 2010 and Varun in 2012

Biras Blockbuster YJHD and even after he had many opportunities to prove his mettle he apparently says he gets the good films and what happens to them?

After Big hit YJHD he did
Besharam
Roy
BV
Tamasha
ADHM which just about managed to be a hit

Ranveer did only one film after BM. despite debuting ahead of the other 2 and having done more films the nett total seems to be inching closer..

If people wanted to see the "superstar" fail. Why didn't that happen during Kaabil n Raees clash?? If a movie is scoring big and running at the box office for 50 days is not because of hype,it it's always WOM. People are not stupid that they will go to watch a movie just for the hype, neither they want to prove a point to some superstars.( Hell we are spending our money here!)
IMO BM was the best movie of the year. Dilwale was a bad movie.( I would spend my money on watching something good)
