better if the setting was not Disney.

Welcome to Hippo's take on the movie

- Overall I like suspense movies but this is not about my likes as my likes have been disaster on BO

- I think problem with this movies seems to be disney theme. They are trying to present 35 year olds as Harry potter or disney character with all the colors etc. Usually such movies look good on teenagers

- Then add Katrina of all people as Disney girl..I mean she is looking like teacher of RK and is not blending in.

- Story seems interesting but in clownish setting of Disney it is a hit or miss

- Key factor would be children. Will they push parents to see this movie and add 30-40 crores..if not then this can be less than 100 crore.

- At most it will be 150 crore..I dont see any 200+ potential

But its about connecting..if it did not then embrace for 50 crores lol

I agree with most your points Hippo.

Premise looks promising but something is a miss. I am not sure how kids would like the dialogues in musical.

Though.. still hoping Basu would pull something impressive. I mean Barfi looked different at first but the story was perfectly weaved around the character. So, let's see.

I agree, they should've hired actual teenagers or kids to portray the characters, kids find that more relatable in live action movies, animation is a whole different ball game and Disney reigns supreme in that but their live action (apart from the remakes like BatB and JB etc) are meh. I don't think this might work for Bollywood audiences, but hopefully it works for Basu's sake, loved his work in Barfi

Good analysis! I was only impressed by visuals cos the rest was less promising.
Kat looked cute in song promos, dunno wat happened in trailer? IMO Alia is the perfect choice for teenage/Disney type roles.

nice analysis :)
Hope it does connect to wider audience though, chances are less... but lets see.

As for me, I really like that it is sooo different. It's very new in our Indian cinema, and looks cute, looks like one we watch with wonder. I like to remove notions of how a movie should be like and watch it for what it is, with fresh mind... because, afterall, this is a fantasy movie :))

I played that movie for short time but as soon as I saw Amrita Singh I stopped it. That beautiful lady of yesteryear now has a face of wrestler. So dry and woody. Rekha on the other hand has aged gracefully

If not teenagers then Tiger or Alia or even Varun. Katrina is just a misfit. Considering records and desi mindset and audience I dont think disney type cutie movies appeal much. Just my observation

35 year old male is 25 in bollywood age

35 year old female is 45 in bollywood age

RK is ok though not as teenager.

U r one of the kids that I was talking about..if kids like u take ur maama paapa or family to show then it might be a hit

Thanks all for providing me ample opportunity to bump my topic lol

The BW audience does not pay much heed to the age factor or else Rajendra Kumar, Sadhana, Jeetendra, AB's, Rekha, Rakhee, Govinda, Jaya Prada, Sri Devi, Madhuri, Anil Kapoor, Jackie shroff, Sanjay Dutt, Salman, Shah Rukh, Juhi, DP, PC, Shahid, and all stars you can name have all played over grown college student😆. AK and Ayesha Jhulka played overgrown school student!!😆 So the audience does not care much.
See the art lies in the movie keeping you engrossed and entertained and holds audience interest, it should work. Rest is immaterial.

At the end of the day, if it is a good movie, it'll work. Else will tank.
Risk is huge coz it is musical. We are used to seeing old heroes going to college, as RSR pointed out. Aamir did in 3 Idiots. So I don't mind that at all.

My only worry is that since it is a delayed movie, it'll show somewhere on screen. I hope they have patched it well.

Being a Musical is my biggest worry.

WOM will play very important role in BO of this movie. It is the type that can Swim or Sink in one day.

I am standing by this movie coz it is something new that RK is trying.

Your points are very valid Hippo !! Lets see how it goes.
