I don't make the rules dear. But even in Western countries a woman can't go topless. Even a feminist woman. They will be arrested.

We will call anyone that does not approve of a short dress as regressive but we will also frown upon a woman wearing a hijab out of her own free will as being covered from head to toe by a black cloth.. that is the state of "modern" thinking on the internet these days. you can only be considered progressive if you prove that you are fine with showing skin and cleavage, sex, and all that shizz.. Otherwise, you are just narrowminded

I have friends who wear a hijab and claim to be feminist. 😛. As far as I know Mallala Yousef still covers her head. Can any of us claim to be more feminist than her ?

Moi: Interesting. I asked b/c I just had a huge argument with someone at home who was hell-bent that in a conservative colony like ours with "riff-raff bordering the outskirts of it" western women shouldn't wear shorts & neither should a friend whose in-laws didn't appreciate her wearing shorts "to save her marriage she should've realised she shouldn't wear such clothing." It's interesting to see how many people our own age believe in this line of thinking. I don't doubt your feminist credentials, why would I, I was just quite shocked at these comments but then I do see them being echoed online a lot too..

I was talking about the so called modern antics displayed on the Internet.. The same people who are so wierded out by the outrage over the nautanki's dress would not think twice before commenting on a woman wearing hijab to any place, deeming it as ignorance
She does not take hijab but covers her head, yes

The people who shame women for wearing short clothes or frown upon people who wear hijab belong to the same category of trolls. The bottomline is women should never be judged on the basis of clothes whether she is wearing a short dress or hijab.

And so basically everyone is a troll and so I don't get what the fuss is about.. Half think the dress was okay. the other half does not.. Their opinion.. it does not give anyone the right to call anyone as regressive or narrowminded

Nautanki was initially called a wannabe and was being criticized for wearing inappropriate clothing for the most part... The character thing came much later which is what I observed after reading the other thread and was still quite limited.. Most people were still questioning her choice of clothes with respect to the occasion.. This is no different to the tons of judging that went on in the Cannes thread
