I think this question of girls getting the right to choose their own career wont be given in a village, patriarchial, deeply entrenched in castes and eating habits.

the 12 year old girl who was married off, answered it best when she said that atleast your dad thinks about it, is not forcing you to get married off to a stranger 10-15 years older than you and you are expected to have sexual intercourse on that first night itself with a stranger. then give birth to children as long as you are physically capable if you are lucky and if not, well you will die in child birth.

that is the fate of millions of girls all over India.

and born and brought up in that society, a man for the first time thinks women can not only be equal to men but defeat them in physical fights...

this is where the story needs to be applauded..

he did not look for grooms when his daughter turned 12 or 14, did not worry if she will get married if she is seen fighting with guys in front of the entire village community...this is also where he needs to be applauded...

I don't mean to be politically incorrect, but I have heard about China that it's govt forces many people into certain professions. Is that true or not? If it is, then these people have some nerve criticising this movie, when they are going through the same thing in reality. I mean should've at least mentioned that.

Heard they can't have more thn 2 children. If they do have or wanted to have 3rd child, they have to pay the government. Like compensation 😆

chinese feminists did nt get the story at all..
dangal clearly was nt a city story..
the 13yr old unhappy child bride already told the tradition
of villagers..just get married n bear children.here at least was a
father who did nt find his daughters burden to get rid off asap..

as of career choice nt being offered to the girls..how many city
girl's really gets their choice of careers to pursue i really doubt..
if parents are doctor engg lawyers we are expected to live to that
tradition only..the first thing relatives ask what will u do after 12
be a doc like ur dad or a engg like ur bro..or a lawyer like ur mom..
max times professions are followed as a hereditary tradition as well..
so from there dangal never showed any bias ..ur expected to take after
ur parents n even better them in the same field..

china is full on dictatorship now , raise a voice against govt and be prepared to be prosecuted 😆.
Li na could not play in fed cup because otherwise she had to pay more than 50% tax.Similarly all the celebs have gone to hongkong or singapore and settled there 😆

Some people will always criticize...I'm no big fan of patriarchy but if what Aamir's character did for his daughters in this film is patriarchy, I won't mind having that at all...criticism is fine only if one does not criticize for the heck of criticizing...that character was toiling to make his daughters' lives...what is he gonna get if they win medals?.. other than pride at his daughter's achievements...kamaal ke log hain...if he would have been sitting on his ass there, letting his daughters cook n clean, because it was their daughter's misguided choice then also they would have said patriarchy and no upliftment of girls etc...his character is how a parent should be...recognize the talents of their offsprings...he asked them to train only when he saw potential in them...more power to such dads n moms!!
