This is like two minutes of fame for South industry. They can't let it go.
Sairat was a hit last year and maharashtra people did not start Sairat>sholey kind of topics. But this is hilarious.

You may like Baahubali better than Avatar, but maintaining with a straight face that it comes even within light years technically to what Avatar achieved, is delusional. It also shows lack of knowledge about what CGI is and how its done.

Forget Avatar, shows on network TV have CGI that is a gazillion times better than what we have in Baahubali.
The reason for this is of-course is the he vast difference in budget (for HW biggies like Avatar) but also the technical expertise of the programmers, but that point is moot in this discussion.

Some of the shots literally use photoshopped images in the backdrop hoping nobody notices and the epic war scenes are no better that what computer games were doing back in the 90's.

Tom and Jerry has better graphics, now I know you are on something.

Let me repeat in small words. Cameron needed 3D to show the effect of the leaves his team worked on. He thought that was the future. All these years later, who the hell wears 3D to see those leaves. On the other hand, the temples of Mahismati will be the same today, tomorrow a decade hell even 50 years from now. You can watch it on any medium, your phone, tablet, laptop even on your outdoor projector. It will still look the same. That to me is worth something. That alone makes it superior, plus the budget. So if you are trolling for more, sorry cya !!

Okay, I am genuinely shocked at what I am reading here in the thread. Its like people have a mask on and are refusing to see what put in front of them.

Okay now coming to your posts:

1. You can watch Avatar without 3D on any platform, it still looks amazing. With 3D in Imax though, it is another experience entirely.

2. Baahubali doesn't have world class CGI or effects, not even close. For what world class is see the Harry Potter movies, Marvel and DC stuff, the transformers movies etc. Stuff like Gravity, Avatar, Lord of the Rings or Life of Pi are not just world class, these movies are trendsetters and pioneers in the world of digital film-making.

3. Cameron is having trouble with his new movies because they are damn hard to get right. I would like to see anyone else try and create a full underwater world where characters are as real as on land, the lighting and movement is perfect and doesn't look forced, and on top of that create a fully immersive and believable alien world.

4. There is a difference b/w a movie being better technically and a movie telling a better story. Avatar is a technical masterwork, while the story yes, is generic and not so good. The two are not the same thing.

Finally everyone see this for just how hard it is to get this stuff right and how incredible movies like Avatar are, for doing so:

I don't know how anyone who looks at even a poor Hollywood blockbuster and then Baahubali can come to the conclusion that the later is anywhere near the former, let alone stuff like Avatar.

Its called delusion, nice smoke, and hype a great soft drink.

Also Indians seem to always be inclined to want to one up the west, trying to convince themselves their better in this, better in that etc. Really pathetic mentality, instilled in society.. Thats why a lot of indians chase after the oscars, and although I disagree with Mahesh Bhatt a lot hes right in saying its just trying to appease the west.

Avatars plot is pretty shitty, its like a child cartoon movie in terms of plot, but its revolutionary in terms of the CGI... I havent watched the 2nd and only watched bits of the 1st, but Bahuubali's CGI isnt even close. its maybe troy level or those kind of movies, unelss they did a drastic improvement I highly doubt it.

anyway hollywoods best epics are LOTR doubt bahubaali even comes close. But its a remarkable achievement and is probably best 'ancient civilisation' movie made by India, and its not by bollywood, so even more respectable as theres less of a budget usually (tho this ones was obv/probably huge). Most ancient civilisation based movies in the west are really shit as well

Umm..The South is blowing its trumpet because it smashed BO records worldwide for an Indian movie. It was #3 this week in the US, never happened before AFAIK.

Sairat being a hit and Bahubali being a hit are entirely different though I will say Sairat is a gem of a film and content wise a better story.

@Arsai
A movie is an experience like music. People must feel it. For a movie, it starts wit a story. Avatar's story and CGI never impressed me. I am not a fan of CGI people. I appreciate a story told by human characters with CGI playing a background. For a variety of reasons Avatar does not and never did appeal to me. I love tech heck even cartoons. But If a character is not human then it must be powerful and unique like Yoda of Starwars. I love starwars, star trek and I've felt more of a connection with R2D2 the robot and Yoda than the blue people of Navi. They were boring, generic and their yellow eyes were freaky.

There is a reason Starwars is a classic and Avatar is still in part 1. Cameron did not create a proper universe like star trek or starwars and cannot take his story forward IMO.
