^^Yes she's under-rated fosho. She should get more roles & she's got very good screen-presence too! I find myself searching for her in all the films she has done. Pallavi Sharda was very good too. Both, ESP Gauhar, need to do more films!

Just saw it yesterday.. it was disturbing to say the least..but acting wise very good..esp Gauhar..her one scene was the one which was not disturbing due to the content but because u can't help but connect with her helplessness.. the rest was out to catch you by the throat which was the intention but I really wish it was due to the connect rather than the visuals..esp the food scene which MEB mentions.. so many small nuances are touched upon but not explored..bad editing and camerawork in many frames..
the Master was seriously the worst, Mushran did a wonderful job..and Chunky Pandey was chilling.. brilliant.. vidya being vidya was fantastic as usual.. I wish the mother-daughter scenes were better etched, the relationships between the girls were given a bit more character rather than random scenes and the screeching..Good Lord, some of the shouting really ruins good scenes and plot lines.. overall like the reviews say, not for the faint hearted..

The reviews make it seem bad. Again, how much does it need to make?

Anu: Yep. I can't eat meat & can't get that scene out of my mind!!!' I feel completely nauseated when I even think about it!! I came home & gave my dog a huge hug. 😭

These are scenes were totally gratuitous 😡 Hated Master!! He deserved a very painful death!! 😡

I agree..it was one of the worst scenes ever..
As soon as the Master made an entry I was sure he is going to be evil.. ek toh politician, that too pretending to be social worker..please, in movies and shows, he is marked to be evil.. when Gulabo is going all lovey dovey on him, I wanted to smack her head considering how naive she was being.. atleast the movie didn't put in a child rape scene, small mercies..

^^I knooow!! I swear I thought that's where it was going!! Or that they'll make the Raja want to sleep with her or something, I mean most were known to be!!! I thought a lot of these scenes were for the purpose of a moral shock/un-necessary. Except all the sex scenes b/c that was their work. The Master was absolutely the worst sort of evil; the kind that appears saintly--- Uggh sends shivers up & down my spine just thinking about it!!!! Ppl like the Raja are the atleast on the face, that's much better. He was a more honest man even if he was a sick predator in comparison to the Master!!! And most ppl ESP men are like the Master--- Where they need a woman to worship at the alter of their ego otherwise they are "arrogant" as he called Begum Jaan. 😡

Abir who is famous for Boymkesh Bakshi , The guy who played Real Arnob Bagchi in Kahaani played the role of the master . It was little shocking there , here Vivek does not have strong image , but it was not that shocking

^^I thought here it was more shocking b/c he was so mild-mannered, genuinely nice & real! Not really in the Bong version b/c
I saw it coming. What didn't make much sense is where all this obsessive love came gushing for BJ! Atleast with Gulabo you saw it in the li'l looks, her sighs etc. But what really effected me was how much she loved those women & how deeply she cared for Them. She was an exceptionally compassionate soul. <3

I have only read about the bengali version, and understand that it was even more brutal in content or atleast the presentation.. but BJ itself was difficult to sit through..the chase scene I was actually sure the kid is going to be the victim.. that atleast already did not happen, but it was too much gore..
I personally felt the melodrama was more..the understated scenes like Master staring when with Gulabo or Rubina-Surjit scenes were better at reaching out.. when the girls were screeching it really killed it for me.. like I said, I wud have preferred to see more of Ladli scenes where she is understanding the situation at the brothel, rather what it is in reality, more on Rubina-Surjit's backstory, more on the LGBT angle which was just teased and then disappeared, the rationale for Gulabo's anger towards BJ, etc..
Even the scenes between the INC and Muslim League guys were weirdly unconnected.. I really thought the editing was bad..
