#Phillauri Fri 4.02 cr, Sat 5.20 cr, Sun 6.03 cr. Total: 15.25 cr. India biz.
Phillauri had a low weekend grossing around 14 crore nett and the trend over the weekend was also not very strong with Sunday having very limited growth with 5.25-5.50 crore nett business despite the film being families. The growth on Sunday was just 10-15%. The film has done better comparatively in East Punjab due to the presence of Diljit Dosanjh but even there the film has not really worked as the collections are less than what a Punjabi Diljit Dosanjh film would do if it was not liked. This is despite Phillauri being a Hindi film which gets the big cities of Haryana in play like Gurgaon, Faridabad and Rohtak which give minimal contribution for a Punjabi film though some of this is negated by the tax free status of Punjabi films in Punjab.
The film probably could have gone through on big business in the North as its not a 50 or 75 crore film but obviously biggest plus of the film Diljit Dosanjh has not been used properly or less by the filmmakers. The audience probably expected more and that is why collections in East Punjab have hardly grown and if a Punjab based film is not going to trend strongly in Punjab then its hardly going to survive in the long run. The business of Phillauri over its first weekend is as follows.
Friday - 3,75,00,000
Saturday - 4,75,00,000
Sunday - 5,50,00,000
TOTAL - 14,00,00,000
Phillauri is a wonderful example of a new wave of cinema that is about experimenting and offering novel opportunities. Anushka Sharma started Clean Slate Films " her production company " with the aim of telling non-cliched stories. She took a huge risk with NH10, a chilling thriller set in the heartland of the country. During a recent interview, Anushka said, "No one in Bollywood was ready to produce NH10. When it finally came to me, I had to do it as I saw the potential in the film and because no one was doing it."
With Phillauri, Anushka goes a step further in exploring unchartered territory. At a cursory glance, Phillauri doesn't seem like a box office winner. However, it has set some different industry trends. A major chunk of film's overall collection has come from Punjab, a first for any big Bollywood venture. Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi told indianexpress.com, "The film's overall collection owes a lot to Diljit Dosanjh's stardom in Punjab. Had it not been for Diljit, the film might not have been able to reach a decent sum at the box office. For example, around Rs 1.75 crore (from Phillauri's first-day collection Rs 4 crore) has come out of only Punjab."
"The film's 52% of the overall collection is coming out of Bombay territory (which includes Nasik, Pune and whole of Gujarat). This is a first for a Hindi movie. Usually, a film's collection is highest in Bombay territory, followed by Delhi and other territories in the country. In the case of Phillauri, the highest collection has come out of Punjab state, " Akshaye said.

Phillauri has collected Rs 15.25 crore in three days. The film was made on an economical budget of Rs 21 crore and has already recovered 12 crore from satellite and music rights. With an overall collection of Rs 27.25 ( 15.25 crore + 12 crore), the Phillauri is already on its way to make profits.

BOI: Film drops on Monday
Phillauri showed a noticeable drop in collections on Monday as it grossed 1.75 crore taking its four day total to 15.75 crore nett. The drop was on the cards as business in the North where it had best chances did not really grow well over the weekend. The film was depending on business in Punjab and Delhi because of Diljit and the content but the producers have not taken full benefit of the star power of Diljit as maybe being Mumbai based they are not aware what sort of numbers he can rack up in Punjab and other centres in surrounding areas. Also one part of the film looked like a urban rom com based in a small time and that content was going to find it hard to appeal. The business of Phillauri over the first four days is as follows.
Friday - 3,75,00,000
Saturday - 4,75,00,000
Sunday - 5,50,00,000
Monday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 15,75,00,000
The film is looking to close the week at around 20 crore nett and though again its weak competition this week but its probably likely that benefit will to go Badrinath Ki Dulhania due to this Monday drop for Phillauri.
Movie has released worldwide 12th September and will release in India too...
