Surprising that Kishore Kumar never won a national award. Kavita Krishnamurthy also never won.

Happy to see Monali there. She also deserved it for Sawaar Loon along with Moh Moh Ke Daage

Not surprised with Chitra leading female list but indeed surprising Kavitha Krishnamurthy never won

Also Kumar Sanu never won when he's given gems.

Wish Papon wins in coming years. He deserved it for Moh Moh Ke daage
Kishore Kumar winning none and Mohd Rafi won one sounds pretty absurd and then seeing Shankar Mahadevan winning 3 he is extremely overrated

Kishore Kumar didnt win even one National Award! 😲

Didnt they consider him worthy enough or they dissed him because he didnt sing much classical songs like the South singers?

What a shame!

Kishore Kumar and RD Burman both didnt get much recognition when they were alive, now finally people realize their worth.

Talat Mahmood and Geeta Dutt are also missing, but that is because the award for playback singers was first given out in 1967.

Talat Mahmood was later awarded the Padma Bhushan though. Geeta's career was cut short because of her personal problems.

Initially, I was also surprised to see that Mohammad Rafi only won once. However, he peaked in the late 50s and early/mid 60s, while the National Awards for playback singers were first awarded in 1967. This somewhat explains why he got just one.

Kishore Kumar, on the other hand, peaked in the 70s and 80s. Him not winning even once is very surprising.

During the Indian Emergency Sanjay Gandhi asked Kumar to sing for an Indian National Congress rally in Mumbai, but he refused. As a result, Information and broadcasting minister Vidya Charan Shukla put an unofficial ban on playing Kishore Kumar songs on state broadcasters All India Radio and Doordarshan from 4 May 1976 till the end of Emergency.

not saying Lataji doesn't deserve but if she can get national award for an average song like ruthe ruthe piya from kora kaagaz,I have 100 songs of kishore da that deserve it more😒
