Lol. Did you even watch the whole interview? She admitted that's why rangoon was a setback for her. And she said she is not going to give a discount, but that's how the industry works, you have to show a return, though it is her choice to not give a discount on her fee. She even admitted people that are successful get to build that ecosystem like Aamir and Salman. The whole reasoning behind whatever she said is in the interview and is pretty multi faceted for me to put it into words here. I wish people would actually watch it entirely before commenting and without going off on their own tangents. 😆

^ Anushka is still doing and getting Khan films though. If the role is significant enough, why wouldn't you? Guaranteed exposure to so many eyeballs. She's balancing it with her production house, which is the smart way to go, you age out of being Khan heroine quickly. (& obviously if you only do flowerpots you end up like Asin)

Yeah these critically acclaimed "niche" movies allow actresses to actually explore meaty parts, but they still max out at 70-80 crores with great WOM. The trick ideally is to have a commercial entertainer with a substantial part, but only TWMR managed that so far.

The unfair truth is that big budget Khan movies don't want to shell out the money for top heroines when the additional value of the heroine seems negligible. People would have seen BB if Kareena was replaced by an unknown. Shraddha got booted from Golmaal 4 for asking for 1.5 cr. Hrithik, Ajay, & Akshay are all consciously okay with not working with top actresses.

Kangana is a different case than DP or PC (though PC with her production house & supposedly ghost directing Mary Kom might pursue that mindset later) Kangana says she wants to have say in every aspect of the film from idea to completion, a la Salman & Aamir. That sort of creative control is beyond just "I want to ensure my longevity as an actress" & "I want better parts for myself"

That's asking a lot from a certain section of members here... who just hate the fact that she even exists in the Industry. 😛

Also note that after Queen release, PC and DP have also completely disengaged from Khan films. DP was already filming HNY then... but none of them grabbed a Sultan or a Bajrangi or a Tubelight etc.

I'm pretty certain that as much commercial success is important for them, even DP must be having conflicts with her role in the Dwarf movie (if she has been approached). And in one of her recent interviews with Rajeev, she kinda confirmed it is a "serious" role with probably a niche filmmaker altogether.

@bold... I don't think Queen has anything to do with it. Priyanka was already doing women-oriented films like Fashion, Saat Khoon Maaf, Mary Kom etc before Queen even released. She hasn't worked with Salman since ages and with SRK she only did Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011).

No idea. 😆 It seems that she is not going to be working with SRK though. She said she respects srk in the interview somewhere and it's shame their paths are not going to cross. I will edit this answer when I find the point where she mentions srk exactly.

EDIT: She referred to them collectively starting from 28:30 when rajeev asks a question about the khans, and specifically about srk, she says "shahrukh sir, I'm a huge fan and it's very unfortunate our paths are not going cross" somewhere in that question. :)

I'm sorry, I'd love it if these actresses were turning down Khan movies because they genuinely have better offers, but what have VB, PC, DP, & Kangana even signed?

Simran & RL while they are projects I'm excited for, have niche appeal. PC is the hot brown girl in America if anything. We'll get a clearer picture about her future projects once we know the fate of Quantico. DP has Padmavati, XXX4... and then (?) Vidya's career is at an all time low. I'm not trying to tear down these women and I admire them for vying for more substantial roles... I think the audience should go out & support them. But realistically, the Khans aren't chasing after them either.

DP & Kangana turned down Sultan, but Sultan would have benefitted Kangana more than Katti Batti or even Rangoon sadly (obviously hindsight is 20/20, I'm sure Rangoon looked better on paper). DP turned down Sultan for XXX 3 which was a calculated risk perhaps because she thought she might book something else after, but ended up with a huge gap at what should have been her peak. And now she's apparently back trying for BW. PC was already on the decline (though I think she did some of her best BW work in 2015) so it made sense to venture out at that point.

You all can troll about how SRK needs a top heroine but his opening day + overseas power is still there. The problem with Dilwale wasn't with Kajol, it was with the movie itself. Raees wouldn't have made significantly more with a stronger romance angle with a more known actress.

If they had lineups like Alia's, I'd understand the "wow the Khans are trying to get them and they're unbothered" stance but it's flawed reasoning. I'm sure if SLB re-offered Kangana a role against SRK she would leap at it.

^ tbh Anushka isn't getting much from being in the Khan movies though. She's still far behind all the actresses you've mentioned.

@bold: Kangana's whole reasoning in turning down any khan film is that she wants an equal character as any khan in a film they work together, she doesn't want to be sidelined. If she is offered such roles where she also has a substantial character as a khan, then of course, she will accept it. Though that is impossible as khans are the leading attraction and focal point of any of their films and they make sure of it. And nothing bad with that, but you can't blame the actresses from moving away from that, too. Since they need to build their longevity and not be replaced by someone younger few years later.
