I've agreed with almost everything what Sonam has said in this interview. I mostly don't read her IVs as it's all brattish talks but this IV is just class apart from what Kangana and Deepika say while talking about feminism.
Regarding being molested at a young age, what she said is absolutely right. Even today people don't find it anything serious and take it lightly if girls get molested. They just pass it on as if it's normal.

It's quite interesting that from everything she said in that interview, you only retained that bit of information.

I'd say, Aishwarya is no snow White and might have done something for Sonam to say this... how can we know what really went down.

Anyways, it was 10 years ago and Sonam shares a really warm equation with Abhishek (Aish's hubby). Also, I don't think the most beautiful woman on earth would have been moved by such comments when she was in fact still young.

I'll add that Sonam was young but she has matured since then. Proof is that she made up with most people with whom she's had "quarels"

@bold: I don't know why you would assume that. If you don't know about that incident then maybe read up on it instead of giving Sonam the benefit of doubt. If something happened in their personal lives and she said something in an interview then I think it is still a very crass way to address another woman. Plus, if we look at every interview in this way and take into account that we don't know their personal lives then we can never give any opinion regarding any interview ever. That's just absurd. She will be judged on what she has said in an interview. Period.

@red: Again, you're assuming things. Are so many women not sensitive to ageing? Even normal women don't like to be called auntie...Ash is in BW where image is everything. Even if she is beautiful, could she not have doubts about herself? Is this not being too naive or simplistic about body issues of women? Ash was in her thirties..that's not too young in BW.

It is not about her being young or immature, she hasn't mentioned anywhere how she has also labelled women and insulted them, even if for personal reasons. She cannot say that people should not do this or that to women and take the higher moral ground when she has also done such things. Atleast acknowledge them? That would be a start. Otherwise it is just hypocrisy.

Probably, you didn't notice that I quoted a specific post and my reply was in context of that post and not the whole interview. There is a reason there is a quote feature on this forum. What is interesting is that whatever I said in my post was related to Sonam while you did not hesitate to make a comment about what I retained from the interview.

Astha, there were instances where men spoke shit regarding women like - Tiger mentioning how he prefers village girls because they are timid in nature! Salman's rape comment and Ranveer's misogynist and obnoxious ad for a jeans brand got a lot of flak too. Trust me, they were torn apart for their extremely biased and MCPish behavior. This forum is one of the rare places where people are actually not really pro-men and tend to be a lot more open minded. I do not speak for all but a great number of people are.
Sonam and Kangy get called names NOT because they are "feminists". They are obnoxious in their behaviors and viewpoint more often than not and that compels people to lash out at them. I am a feminist myself but that doesn't mean I have to support anyone uttering the word "feminism" to suit their agendas. Such blind and outrageous brand of feminism serves no purpose and rather make people averse to it.

Thank you. Exactly what I was talking about. I am still pretty new to the forum so I can't comment on how pro-men it is or isn't but I know that there was a lot of backlash when Salman made that comment. People are sensitive to every comment celebrities make.

The reason these actresses get called names is because they are consistent in their rude or crass comments. Every time they talk or most times, they create controversy so that image gets stuck with the audience. That is not so with Tiger or Salman, it's more of a one off. That is the only reason why there might be a difference in their images. But, nobody gets spared for saying regressive things or rude things irrespective of the gender.

These absurd standards of character are created for women on purpose so that *everyone* ends up failing them. Society does this on purpose so that nobody can then say anything and has to put up with the status quo. The game has always been rigged against women and other women are often the enforcers themselves which is just sad.

While I do agree that there are many women who work against the empowerment of women, I would say that it is not always about sexism. If somebody keeps dragging sexism and feminism into every discussion, even where it is irrelevant, that only reduces its significance. So, one should be wary of that.

MY post was not about any purity test. My point was simple that Sonam has talked in a trashy way about women many times and she cannot take the moral high ground now and tell people to not label women or that women's self esteem gets affected etc. That is hypocrisy. Maybe if she first acknowledged her mistakes and then tries to preach then it will be fine but if you preach something and practise something else then you will be called out on it. You cannot be spared just because you are a woman and this is a sensitive issue. In my eyes, she is taking advantage of this issue and of her being a woman when she gives an interview like this but doesn't bat an eyelid before making comments about someone else.

there was a rumor that Dawood's brother Noor had slapped one BW actor of 80's who had put his hand on Mandakini's chest ...now going by the track it can be ANIL KAPOOR or GOVINDA...

OT : its sad that Sonam suffered molestation ...

It clearly was a purity test where you surmised that Sonam is not a good spokesperson for women's rights or the massive double standards between men and women because she doesn't have an unimpeachable character since she supposedly made an unflattering comment about Ash 10 years ago.

You dragged in something completely irrelevant in order to disqualify Sonam from speaking out about what's right and are now accusing her of "taking advantage" of feminism.

For what it's worth, feminism doesn't mean that you can't ever criticize any woman for anything. It means you should not target women for things that you would not target men for. Don't force women to cover their heads if it's not done for men. Don't enforce virginity on them if men are allowed to sleep around and be called studs. Don't be ageist about women if you're not about men.

It doesn't mean you can never have an argument or fight with another woman and say rude things. Everyone does at some point in life because we're all human!

As for the Ash thing, it was 10 years ago. It was also a blind item and people assumed it to be true because this forum is full of gossip fiends who love to feel morally superior over actors. It was never something that appeared directly out of her mouth in an interview or anything else. It was just hearsay and people here love to obsess about things like that but it's not something anyone really knows about. If she did say it, it's not nice but then if Ash had something to do with Sonam missing Cannes, she was not nice either. That's life.

At least Sonam bothers to speak up sometimes about what's right instead of some actresses who shout about not being feminists to court the male audience.

^^ And you're still exaggerating about what I wrote. She doesn't have to have an unimpeachable character to say anything. Only in this particular context, she is talking about how girls have self esteem issues and should not be labelled etc, but she is guilty of the same things. That is what I am saying. Why does it have to be about men and women and how they are held to different standards? Aren't you reading too much into this? Even if it was a man saying something and doing something else, I would have commented the same. Because it is about being holier than thou when you're actually not, it is not because Sonam is a woman that I made that post.

And btw even when two people are fighting, it is the things they say that are criticised. If someone calls herself a feminist and then calls another woman a fossil who's getting no action and going through menopause, I will definitely call it bs. If a man said this statement, he would be called a lot many names so why should a feminist be spared for commenting on a woman's age and menstruation?

Do you think it's easy for people who have been victim of such event to open up? They do to help the other victms open and come forward.

Seriously,!?! Even in countries like France it's not easy for a raped woman to go to the police as they might refuse to take her complaint or make crass comment about it. But YOU! Think it's fun when Sonam opens up in a country that hasn't shone with the it treated women lately (no offense to Indians).

You're pretty safe behind your computer but don't forget that even today some women are vctims of honor killing because they were raped!

Woah feminism ki amma! 👏 Band karo apna bhashan!

Look I'm not making fun of her scar and neither she is a rape victim. There is a difference before you start your moral policing. I don't even know if she's saying the truth because Sonam is delusional, blabbermouth and an attention seeker. So unless somebody vouches for her getting molested, I will not believe it. Also, its funny how this article popped up after she tried to seek attention using her cleavage which terribly flopped.
