Amitabh is that high in my list because of longevity.. he continued to adopt with the time and started playing character roles..
Raj Kapoor was a better director than an actor or a star. He was big in the days, but not as big compared to Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand. Dilip Kumar is the most complete actor in the history of Indian cinema - a top-notch actor, and a huge star.
It's become a trend to leave Rajesh Khanna out of the equation because the media is all over AB these days. Yet, at the peak of their powers, no one comes even close to Rajesh Khanna as a star. As an actor, he was phenomenal too. As a star, he's unprecedented.
The thing with Amitabh Bacchan is that he was after Rajesh Khanna waned as a superstar. But we have to remember that those were the days of multistarrer action dramas. Rajesh Khanna wasn't part of that clique because he didn't want to be and still he was delivering amazing movies (and Hits). Amitabh's biggest Hits are all multi-starrer action dramas. Beyond that genre, he wasn't all that big, barring a few exceptions.
It also helps that AB had a lot of backing from insiders (he was Rahul Gandhi's friend). That doesn't, however, mean AB wasn't a demigod back then. He was. He's easily in the top-5. He's just not #1 as the media wants you to believe.
