People think Sakina and Bittu were good performances? 🤣Heck even her "supposedly gem of a portrayal" of Zoya in Raanjhana was so so bad.

Her pathetic attempts at conveying anger and sadness. 😆😆

Yup they were indeed good performances. I don't think the public would have sat through Raanjhanaa if the acting was as bad as you're making it out to be.
The film earned 60cr in India in 2013 which wasn't an easy feat for actors of these caliber (Sonam a young actress whom people lost hope in regard of her acting and BO pull and Dhanush a newbie in Bwood whom people thought he didn't fit the beauty criteria of the industry)

If the director felt these scenes conveyed what he wanted them to, then how can you say it's pathetic attemps ?

There's a difference between a good film and a good performance. You are equating good films like Raanjhana and Neerja to Sonam's good performances which IMO (and in the opinion of so many others) are not that good.

Only her performance in Neerja can at most be stretched and called decent but Neerja was a comparatively easy character to portray. Even then, Sonam got overshadowed big time by Shabana and the terrorists. Even those who loved Neerja loved it for the character, not necessarily for the portrayal.

And you're confusing facts with your opinion.

My point is that, if Sonam had been as bad as you say she is in these two movies ; then people wouldn't have paid for it.
It would have been okay if she had been a flowerpot and hardly arguable because then people would have paid to see something else.

The thing is, her performance was also fundamental for these two movies to succeed. She could have weighted down these movies but apparently didn't as people flocked to the theaters to see them.
Don't think people are fool because while they went to see Neerja they hardly paid attention to UP. Know that nowadays, what's written in the press hardly reflect what the general public thinks and feels.

Screens :
Neerja : 700/900
UP: 2000

BO :
Neerja: 75.61cr
UP: 59.60cr

Let's not forget that until the censor board controversy, people hardly seemed interested by the movie

Again.

People go for a movie if the reviews, WOM etc are good. Noone really goes for a movie because a particular actor has been praised for his/her acting. Yes that's one factor in determining the success of a film, but not the only factor in driving people to the cinema halls.
And its not like Sonam was the best thing about those films. She was good in Neerja but got overshadowed. And in Raanjhana, she was unbearable. For me, Dhanush stole the show and all the debut awards from right under her nose. 😆

A movie will fail to deliver if one of the pillar actors is bad. Hence Sarabjit's flop. 🤪
