That's what I felt after watching Dangal trailer and Haanikarak bapu song.
So basically Aamir's character is sad and disappointed because he has no son.

One day he comes to know his daughters thrashed two guys.

Them he realizes his daughters too can fulfill his dream and have the ability to become world champions in wrestling.

So fat it's good.

But what he does next!

He forces his daughters to become pehelwaan. He makes them do jogging, jump into icy cold water in the wee hours, trains them, everything against their wishes.

They even talked about it to their mother that they don't want to be pehelwaan but she supported her husband over her daughters.

The training affected their studies too as the gals couldn't concentrate on their studies and would sleep in the class.

Their father was way too strict with them.

I just hope this movie doesn't glorify overambitious parents forcing their kids to fulfill their dreams and make them do things against their wishes.

There have been many instances of that in real life too.

It's a true story and Aamir can't twist the story to please people.

Pogbat sisters are rich and famous because their father was strict
Yuvraj's father was very strict, wanted him to be a cricketer so he coached him at the start with a very strict routine. Yuvi is a millionaire and a very happy man because of his father.

Even I too felt the same after watching the song but it's a real story and not fictional.
Mahavir Singh Phogat belonged to a small village where gals are not given much freedom. They are only conditioned to study, learn to cook and other stuff, grow up,marry and become housewife and take care of family and kids. Mahavir's wife is a perfect example of that.

Aise mein if the gals are told to become pehelwaans all of a sudden then obviously they won't be happy about it.

Plus, they have to take rigorous training for that so I don't think they were tortured by their father.

It's part of the story.

agreed !

basically he forced his daughters to pursue the career which is not their dream but his !once he saw the potential in them as being wrestlers he started training them !😕 atleast they should have showed daughters are also equally interested in becoming wrestlers instead of strict father ,who is imposing his dreams on them !!

Much much better father than forcing girls to sit back, stop school and marry off young.

All sportsmen come from strict routines backed by some one from their childhood. Not only sports people, lot of successful people have some one who backed/guided them when they were young.
Then when they become adults, they have a choice.

Being rich and being a millionaire is not a bad thing, but at what cost? You talk about Yuvraj and these sisters because they are a success story, but it can mislead countless number of people and the rate of success is abysmally low. What about those who never become a success despite enduring all the pain and the agony.

The TM has a point.

I don't actually look too much into details in BW movies but the thought crossed my mind and i asked a question to myself why no-one raised the issue considering how things are discussed here to length looking between the lines ..on screen..off screen ...good...bad ..moral etc etc
And even the movies based on real sotries get BW ka tadka and don't portray things exactly as it happened.

Phogat sisters stories are synonymous to almost every other sports person in the world..They have to go through the enormous hard work and tough training from childhood..They have to give up soo many things starting from food to study to hobby to accommodate long long hours of training. Obviously they don't understand their potential and it takes someone like a coach to identify that and train them..A person is sometimes needed to make you realize your own potential and dream...It can be termed as cruelty but for extra ordinary success every one has to go through a lot of toughness and sacrifice many things..And finally its a real story...Why should it be tweaked?

I know it's a story of a real person and I am well aware of condition of women in villages.

It's really strange that people found it funny seeing the plight of gals in the Haanikarak bapu song instead of feeling sorry for them. They found the gals helplessness, their pain due to rigorous training, their tiredness, their sleeping in the class, their fear for their father, everything too funny. In fact, even the song seems to make fun of the gals instead of sympathizing with them.

Yes,all that torture and hard work bore fruits as they became successful wrestlers and fulfilled their father's dream but it's a fact that it was not their ambition and they were forced to do that by their overambitious father and helpless mother.

I am afraid the movie doesn't give this message that it's ok if parents impose their dreams and ambitions on their kids and force them to do that because there are chances of them ending up rich and successful like these 2 gals. After all, people do take inspiration from movies.

There have been many such real stories like the gal who played the role of SRK's son in KANK.She was forced to live the life of a boy by her mother so that she can become rich and successful.

3 idiots showed the disadvantage of parents imposing their dreams and ambitions on their children.I just hope this movie doesn't glorify all that.
