Top 10 Bollywood Highest Weekend Grossers 2016 - Box Office

Alia Bhatt beats herself in the box office battle. In the race of the higest first weekend grossing film - Dear Zindagi evicted Udta Punjab that stood at 30.54 crores in its opening weekend. Dear Zindagi stands currently on the 10th highest First weekend grosser of 2016 in Bollywood.

Released in 2012, Gauri Shinde's debut directorial flick English Vinglish had collected 40 crore in its lifetime run. Now the pace at which her second film Dear Zindagi is doing, this number would be surpassed in 5 days flat. So far, the film has collected 36.75 crore at the Box Office (after bringing in 4.25 crore more on Monday) and now 40 crore would by crossed by tonight.

Even though English Vinglish had a relatively wider audience for itself and was powered by the comeback of Sridevi, the film had taken a relatively slow start. The word of mouth for the film was fantastic though and that was the reason why film could grow from the opening day collections of 2.5 crore to the final lifetime of 40 crore. It had then done quite well in overseas too after a segregated release. In comparison, Dear Zindagi appears to be a top heavy film for now, what with the opening day itself fetching 8.75 crore. With word of mouth ensuring a steady rise in collections over the weekend, the job has been done.

The film is playing for niche audience though and hence even though the word of mouth isn't as unanimous as English Vinglish, the premium multiplexes are continuing to see footfalls which is good news for it. Of course, the presence of Shahrukh Khan was a huge boost for Alia Bhatt which has allowed the film to gain a very good platform and find wide visibility.

The next few days would decide how far would the film go when compared to other multiplex hits of the year like Neerja, Kapoor & Sons and Pink.

Box Office: Dear Zindagi stays stable on Monday, collects 4.25 cr on Day 4

After a very good weekend that saw Rs. 32.5 crore coming in, Dear Zindagi has stayed stable on Monday now. Yes, there was a drop in collections but still, Rs. 4.25 crore is a good enough number to ensure an overall healthy Week One for the Gauri Shinde directed film. The film has now collected Rs. 36.75 crore at the Box Office and these are the kind of numbers that would have been fair enough for the entire first week as well.

While it was the presence of Shah Rukh Khan that had ensured a promising start for Dear Zindagi, it is the content that has to do the talking from this point on. The word of mouth for the film has ranged from theek thaak' to good to very good, and this kind of variation was pretty much on the cards, considering the different theme, narrative and plotline that Gauri Shinde has brought for the audience. If released three decades ago, the film would have been tagged as New Wave cinema and perhaps backed by the likes of NFDC. In that aspect, hats off to Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan for making this go mainstream.

Costs have played a major role as well in ensuring that at the end of the day, Dear Zindagi shows as a plus affair for all involved. As an actress, Alia Bhatt is juggling between the likes of Dear Zindagi and Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya, her next release. That pretty much showcases that she isn't hesitating to take risks so early in her career, and managing to demonstrate a wide range as an actress.

Good credit to the elite crowd too that visits premium multiplexes. They have given thumbs up to the film which was always catering to a certain target audience. Now it has to be seen how much further does the film travel from this point on.

Just came back from the movie. It is quite a sweet movie. A bit stretched but well it was fine. I enjoyed it, especially Shahrukh and Alia conversations are the best part of the movie. Alia is growing in leaps, she is not taking steps, she is taking leaps, and I hope she keeps growing. Shahrukh after a long time I really enjoyed his performance, he looked very good too. All in all, it is a good movie, and deserves appreciation.

Alright movie ---- best part of the movie for me was SRK ---- Alia was good too but her characterization wasn't that great ---- it seemed incomplete & lacking ---- all three boys were boring so were their mini affairs ---- the movie worked only after SRK's entry --- he was witty, charming plus looked great in the beard ---- pretty hot ---- funny enough SRK Alia had more chemistry than anyone in them movie --loll--- they should make a movie on these two -- *older man younger girl love story* --- they will work wonders together ---- two good actors with *great chemistry* --- !!!!
One thing is for sure Alia has shut her detractors who keep dissing her for being shoved down our throats ---- the girl is talented & a hard worker to have achieved what she has in couple of years ---- !!!!
Overall one time watch --- watch it for *SRK & his dialogues & SRK Alia scenes* --- they were the highlight of the movie --- !!!
