I think you are ignoring the commercial motive of the movie. Yeah critically movie night take a hit because of this comic and cheesy bits, but for a commercial movie this is like salt. without this the movie will be bland. people will appreciate the movie but WOM will always be "it is good movie, but kind of boring " and single screens WOM will be like "maha pakao". So commercially this is absolutely necessary. I personally don't mind comic relief, because at the end of the day movies should not forget about the entertainment aspects while conveying a message. Plus it is an Aamir movie, he is always about BO records, so obviously he will try to include humour in the movie so people don't get bored and try to watch it repeatedly. Also including humour does not mean people will not be able to see the struggle. Like in 3idiots people understood the pain of the engineering students despite all the comic moments with Joy's dead. Like wise I think in Dangal there will be one particular moment people will get serious and take notice. And IMO that is the beauty of Hirani/typical BW genre of drama. While it is all entertaining it always has one serious moment which makes us take notice seriously. So IMO having humour and comic is an absolute must if the movie wants to be a big blockbuster.Didn't like it.
The story seems good but the song is just wrong. It is jarring almost nullifies the impact this should have had. I hope that the final cut of the movies doesn't end up having this sequences or any song for that matter.
The two girls have had this tough childhood, made sacrifices and yet this video plays almost as a comedy, which does the narrative no good at all. Its cheesy, on the nose and out of place. If it is done deliberately, then that's a terrible choice.
Dangal is a movie that doesn't need songs at all. They will only hold it back and especially when the composer is Pritam. Let's hope that some sense prevails and this is only a promotional tactic.
