The family of Kargil war martyrs had to fight for nearly 10 years to get compensations. The Government does take care of them, but the defense personnel also fight bureaucracy and corruption just like the rest of us.

Arent' there farmers in India who are millionaires and lead lavish lifestyles? And then there are those who have to commit suicide because they can't pay off their loans.

Just like you can't lump all farmers into one group and call them all poor and hungry and in need of financial help, you cannot lump all the armed forces together and declare that they are all very well-off and leading lavish lifestyles.

I still think that the particular post was very offensive and deliberately hurtful to the Indian Armed Forces and their families.

A Defence Personnel gets paid to defend and guard his country. How can you put a price on his life and say that its okay if they die, because their families get compensation? That is the most hurtful and vile thing to say for a soldier.

I dont think the member had that intention. She said some poverty stricken people of the society whom no one bothers about apart from maybe election time should be looked after. The government already looks after the army men. Whether thats enough or not is subject to one's own experiences I guess. The lavish bit is an exaggeration.

They can find jobs becoz they have contacts. Upper strata hardly have any problem anywhere. It is the lower ranks who suffer. By similar examples, Big farmers have big kothis and live a better life than many businessmen. Then there are small farmers who face every difficulty.

Also by 'forced to retire', I meant it has been a part of policy. Their age of retirement is around that only. They cant work beyond that in army except in few cases.

I agree...it depends on person to person. My cousin wasnt a high ranking officer either. And he didnt find a job either. But he started his own business. Now he is the owner of two mills, several businesses and lots of farmland. So it depends on what people make of it too. Maybe my cousin got better opportunities around him based on where he is?

The bold: Thats right.

i am that vile member..ur talking abt..
i did nt say its okay to die..
neither did i say compensation is enough..
i said that fund raising is nt required for the army in my pov..
try if ppl read too much or too little then of course a sane comment will also
look vile..
its nt my nature to insult anyone..or belittle anyone..
i merely said that the lady mita vashist who suggested fund raising..
i dnt support that..the army dnt need it..as 60-80% of our budget is allocated
for defense ..this field is well looked after by the gov..that is all i wished to say..
just pay ur taxes its enough to accumulate the funds required for the army..
u dnt need to go around door to door to collect funds..
most army has school for their children too..
army children dnt go to ordinary school either..
so i said help the farmers n their children..collect funds for them..
so that they can have two meals ..so that their children can go to a gov school
till class 8 at least..
bt i guess some ppl finds too much even in too simple comments..

Around 18% of our budget allocation is for defence not 60 to 80% as you seem to think.
Goodness we aren't North Korea...most of our budgetary spend is on social sector schemes and agriculture and subsidies, especially on fertilizers.

Kindly get your facts right. Our defence expenditure as a % of GDP is around 2% and considering the size and population of our country alongwith the ever present threat from hostile neighbours in North and West is actually on the lower side.

http://m.timesofindia.com/budget-2016/union-budget-2016/Union-Budget-2016-Defence-budget-hiked-by-nearly-10/articleshow/51195736.cms

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_budget_of_India

P.S. However much we contribute for our defence personnel is less...same as it is for our farmers. Both are in different situations but equally worthy causes for our attention.
