I haven't read all the posts, but what I was trying to say was that while the soldiers are definitely not in a pitiable condition, they are not leading a 'lavish lifestyle' as mentioned by one of the members.
The family of Kargil war martyrs had to fight for nearly 10 years to get compensations. The Government does take care of them, but the defense personnel also fight bureaucracy and corruption just like the rest of us.Arent' there farmers in India who are millionaires and lead lavish lifestyles? And then there are those who have to commit suicide because they can't pay off their loans.Just like you can't lump all farmers into one group and call them all poor and hungry and in need of financial help, you cannot lump all the armed forces together and declare that they are all very well-off and leading lavish lifestyles.I still think that the particular post was very offensive and deliberately hurtful to the Indian Armed Forces and their families.A Defence Personnel gets paid to defend and guard his country. How can you put a price on his life and say that its okay if they die, because their families get compensation? That is the most hurtful and vile thing to say for a soldier.
