I look at yesteryear beauty queens and they really knew how to carry themselves. One wanted to listen when they spoke about something- Sush, Lara, Aish, PC etc.

Most people don't arrive in BW looking like they do now, even PC. But the raw material was there. Else they had standout looks like a DP or Kat or a personality that demanded to be acknowledged like Bebo.

The thing about all these people is they have great screen presence, But a lot of work went into making them who they are and taking them where they are. Some of them worked on their acting, all of them worked on and all paid attention to their looks, grooming, fitness and fashion. Why do these seemingly frivolous things matter ? To be at the top these are necessary because you need to be aspirational for people to follow you outside of films.

Lupita is a big example of that. She was an unknown actress, but she quickly climbed the popularity charts because of her fashion though she eventually went to win the Oscar. But the media does not fawn over every Oscar nominee, only those who dazzle on the red carpet.

Many of BW's most talented do not learn that lesson and apparently today's newcomers. If I want to aspire to be an actress, Vidya Balan would be my role model. But few want to follow behenji fashion Most want to look current and that is where a Kat or a Sonam come in for they are aspirational. Today's new comers are not aspirational nor do they seem to want to do the extra work. Or if they do work on their bodies they bore you to death like Pari. 🤔

Nobody excites me like Srk or is combination of beauty and talent like Urmila or Manisha.. I said this before we have people are either talented Alia or beautiful Shraddha.. We dont have any perfect packages for an example Urmila could even dance.. I think a lot of has to do with the neptoism that keeps closing the door for more exception people to come in.. IMO Deepika is not even talented as of yet. .She is just somewhat better than what she was.. But it works in bollywood since she has the conventional good looks which very few ppl have..

P.S. Disha Patani is actually prettier than Shradha.. She has more defined face cut and is more delicate looking.. Sad she cant make it further.. Havent seen her acting talent though

Nowadays, it seems like the only criteria is being easy on the eyes, at least for female actors. That too a very prototypical standard. For male actors, it's anyway so difficult for outsiders to make it while the industry guys are also sort of meh.

Bosskabiwi also made a similar topic. Both actors in BW and HW and how they lack that something that defines them.

It's so weird because, on one hand there is talent.. but on the other hand, it's not the kind that defines them as an individual.. It's just sad.. or are we expecting too much?

You know, when I think about the likes of SRK, John Travolta and so on, the 'stars' with x-factors who were also good acting. I think it's just the evolution of cinema.

Whenever someone brought in something new, or had their own way of doing things, or rather should I say, they were being more comfortable being their selves through their charms/expressions/style that was before unseen - all in all, it set them apart. Starting from Marlon Brando, we see this trend.

And, come down to late 70s-late90s , everyone brought in their own way of doing things + good at acting...earlier, it was too unexplored, one has to be bold enough to bring in their piece of self into their profession.. I guess cinema is soo much explored now, that, you just either have 'good' actors or 'bad' actors. But a part of me tells me, one needs strong individuality to shine.. Somewhere I feel people are more focussed on being agreeable, and aren't willing to take a 'risk' or maybe they just didn't explore their selves in their profession.. or maybe it's just a phase..

Is Disha Patani the female lead in MS Dhoni?

If shes that girl, then I can see potential in her, really liked her in the trailer they are showing constantly on TV now.

She seems to have that X-factor- charisma, screen presence, whatever it is...but only after watching the movie we can say for sure if she has IT.

I agree abt Shraddha, Parineeti, etc, they mostly lack that X factor, which lights up the scene when they appear.

Alia, Sonakshi, they are good actors but even they dont rate high on the X factor.

Also with the recent male actors, barely any actor nowadays has that instant appeal, that charisma, that spark, which the Khans had when the debuted, especially Aamir in QSQT and SRK in Deewana.

From their very first movie, they drew attention and craze.

people who have X factor don't get a second chance, ek Harshwarden ko launch kiya Jaa raha hai uske first film release nahi hui and project mill raha hai or dusra Harshwardan ( from sanam Teri kasam) usse Itane Saal struggle karne ke baad ek film milli lekin ab dusri ka koi pata nahi.
Bollywood is now filled with starkids and people who are outsiders unne bhi kisi connection ki wajah se film mill rahi hai and baad mein pata chalta hai ke unka mama yean chacha industry mein hai.
hardwork is the biggest X factor that anybody can have, look at Sushant, Ayushman, Kangana or even Tapsee, why are these people such a good actors? because they didn't get anything on platter they had to struggle for their achievements.
yes there are few talented starkids like Ranbeer who are passionate about acting but apart from view, the rest is soo bland

Hell yeah!

We have absolutely bland newcomers debuting one after another. Both insiders and outsiders. Who is the last actor who demanded attention right from the debut movie? Ranveer?

Then he dedubted in 2010 and after that not one single newcomer worth talking. Sushant may be a good actor but sorry he's too monotonous to be a big star.
