I dont know if Ash had "commercial success" abroad, but she as a stand-alone celebrity is very popular, which did put India on the map!

I remember the euphoria around her back in mid 2000's, especially with her posters all over North America for L'Oreal and her commercial as well. It WAS a big deal and defiantly created lots of buzz and interest in Bollywood as a whole.

She defiantly contributed. Although I must say, Priyanka-Deepika have probably done better work professionally than Ash, but they aren't even 1/5 the celebrity that Aishwarya is when it comes to being "popular"

You cant compare Kalpana to the entertainment industry. I am sure Kalpana is very respected and heralded in her own field.
