The value of an actor in a movie depends on a few factors - the depth and scope of the role, the work and talent required and the ability to draw audiences. A newcomer to the industry cannot expect to draw the same amount as one of the Khans. However, throughout the history of film women have not had pay parity despite their accomplishments. The wage gap is a serious and real issue. I do not think Shraddha understands that people like Kangana, Deepika and co who have fought for pay parity have accomplished the hard work and bankability requirements to back their wages.
Shahid is right in saying that Rangoon has three protagonists or leads, and it should not matter whether they are male or female. At the same time Kangana has a point too. Entertainment industries have been male centric. Female protagonists are often treated as second class citizens. They are a romantic foil or sideline, but rarely have films revolve around them. What Kangana means to say is that she has achieved parity with her role in Rangoon. She is equal to the men in all functions. She is not a romantic foil or an accessory. It is similar to what Jennifer Lawrence has accomplished. When X-Men First Class came out, it was all about James MacAvoy (Professor X) and Michael Fassbender (Magneto). Her character (Mystique) was a sideline, the minor character. Now with X-Men Apocalypse she is equal to them.
As a side bar in storytelling "hero" is equivalent to protagonist. You learn how to create a "hero's journey", your hero can be male or female. You have male superheroes and female superheroes. Princess Leia, Imperator Furiosa are considered action heroes. The storytelling usage of hero is used by most people in stage and film.

"Pay parity depends on the saleability of a particular person. I can also sit and cry that I am getting less money than other male actors."
Except Shahid is not short-changed on his fees on the basis of his gender like Kangana, Aditi, Deepika, Kareena, Aishwarya, Katrina etc have been for ages. It is an incredibly glib remark to make especially when wage disparity between genders is a real and prevalent issue, not just in BW but in most major industries and fields. When Kareena makes a measly 4 cr for Agent Vinod/Bodyguard to Imran Khan's (!!) 7 cr for MBKD, that is not about saleability, marketability, talent or experience. Get your head outta your ass, Shahid.
