Kashyap's main problem is that they refuse to give him an official letter with all the necessary cuts they're asking for, meaning he cannot take the matter to court or anywhere else to bypass CB.

Kashyap's always had a problem with his films and he's always fought. But truth is, with a bigger starcast, bigger names on board gives the issue necessary media coverage..if they can't get things 'fixed' now, then they won't really ever be able to.

It is high time the censor board respected the people of India as intelligent people who are able to make their own choices. Give the film a rating with an advisory for expletive language. People can decide what they want to watch.

Udta Punjab is merely showing a social problem that has befallen Punjab. Many Punjabis on social media have been supporting the release of the film. By refusing to release the film completely, the censor board is doing a disservice to Punjab. It is stopping a social message from reaching the masses. It is stopping an intelligent discussion on drug abuse and the solution across the country.

As for Shahid's character using gaalis all the time, I know plenty of colorful people who use gaalis every other word. What Lalaland is he living in where people only abuse under drug influence?

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Nihalani said Udta Punjab producer Anurag Kashyap's protest against the Censor Board is "politically motivated.

Under fire for ordering 89 cuts in soon to be released movie Udta Punjab, Censor Board chief Pahlaj Nihalani has announced his open allegiance to the BJP and PM Narendra Modi.

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Nihalani hit out at Udta Punjab producer Anurag Kashyap for moving Bombay High Court against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Nihalani said Kashyap's protest against the Censor board's decision is "politically motivated."

HERE'S WHAT NIHALANI SAID:

Kashyap always has issues with CBFC.
Logon ka kaam hai kehna, mujhe uski parwaah nahi. Main apna kaam kar rha hoon. (I don't care what people say. Let them say what they want. I am doing my job.)
Main to PM ka bhakt hoon... ek leader ka bhakt hoon. Main Bhartiya citizen hoon, Italy ka nahi. (I am a bhakt of PM Modi. I am an Indian citizen, not an Italian.)
I love the quality and PM Modi's way of working. I have been his fan since long.
Social media is not the country. Ask the 125 crore people of the country what kind of work I have been doing.

I guess the continuous media vilification is the reason for such strong outburst.

I do agree with Nihalni on some points.

You cannot name real life states/countries/ people and point fingures at them just like that, its liable for libel suit, no matter how true it is. because the concrete facts , that are accepted in court of law are not there.

There has been welcome to sajjanpur, which highlighted all the real social issues in rural India without naming any real village. Granted it was comedy and not a gritty reality based movie, but movies have been made, with corruption being pin pointed before world wide.

Secondly, AK is a cry baby. He called filmakers like Kjo and all sit together and Masturbate and promptly changed his stance and dialogue the moment he started making big budget movies with them.

That being said, uttering abuses are freedom of expression, why the need to cut it? a certain kind of people do talk like that and in order to portray them realistically, their character attributes need to be maintained, imo those cuts are not necessary.

The dig at Suhel Seth was unnecessary.

As angry as Nihalni is, such strong worded response was totally unnecessary on intelligence of other people etc.

Celebrities and leading politicians are called worst in media and SNs. YOu don't see them jumping up and down for that.

I don't understand why modi and the term bhakts is brought up in every DAMN thing... I mean as if modi is responsible for each and every problem in the world... And isme kahan se modi aa gyaa??? I think it was very childish of him to say iam a modi bhakt and all that... What has modi to do with all this??? There are thousands of other politicians and mafias involved.. And now congress and aap jumping in like always and trying to make it a political issue... These two parties are worthless ... For them the root of every problem is ofcourse modi and as usual media will again exaggerate this issue to no extent... Urghh i hate all this... But anyways kashyap has been facing such problems from the beginning... This time the starcast is popular plus it is related to punjab, so now it is becoming a political issue too... So now a film getting banned is becoming a national issue... I support anurag's cause and he has also said that politicians should stay away from this matter !
