I think someone here mentioned Rhett Butler . I might not be big fan of Gone with the Wind b.c. it heavily is controversial and denies an existence of an inhuman system.I was assigned to read this book on AP US in high school. I cannot ever forget it Rhett Buttler. He was the best part of that novel.He knows how to perfectly to deal with the superficial Scarlett. He loves her children as her own.I love how he wants to find someone who can cure his loneliness. He is very open about his sexuality ,and not repressed. He does not like society niceties as ridiculous and says what he think without mincing it. He seems himself as a rebel. Who can forget his famous dialogue "Frankly dear, I don't give myself a damn."Men like that are in fiction..
