I finally got to see parts of QH, could not watch a serial, just could not, but did watch mostly the parts where KSG and Surbi interact, forwarded the rest. I saw parts of Hate Story and some of Alone . I am yet to see DMG.
KSG looks very, very nice in QH. Special mention to the hair and suits 👍🏼But I kept getting a feeling of deja vu. Two leads who look really good together and play off each other very well, their characters are strongly etched, the look is on point, the background characters are annoying and distracting while the leads dominate the screen, the songs. The whole dancing in the dark, the scene where she is buried alive and his reaction when he digs her up. All seemed "familiar", even some of the music. Yep, I realized I was looking at something with the vibe of IPKKND, the only serial I could ever watch in parts. But even then I forwarded to where I watched only the leads interact. I googled and same production house.
Bottom line, i kept seeing the same issue I had with Sobti. He was tremendous as ASR, dominated the screen, acted with his whole face, had great chemistry with Sanaya Irani but take him out of that environment and in every single thing I have seen of him, he was blah. It was as if he was lit up from within playing ASR and someone pulled a plug and he lost everything charming. KSG is not so bad, but he definitely does not have the charm or the acting I saw in QH in the rest I saw. Both Sobti and KSG I think act better with a co-star who they can play off of and kudos to the production company for casting in QH and IPK. KSG was clearly not playing off Bips or anyone else I saw in Hate Story and performance suffered. I have said the same of Sobti before.
To be a movie star at the upper echelon you must create memorable characters IMO. "Non actor" Salman managed to do that with Prem in MPK in one of his very first movies. It is so iconic generations are still mesmerized by it even if the movie is cheesy. SB and Prem is still only Salman though others have tried and failed. Even in an Abbas Mastan movie, SRK the TV actor made such an impression in Baazigar in one of his earliest movies, it is what made him successful as a hero. The fact that he can change a villainous character to an antihero and make people sympathize. He did it in Darr too. Who remembers many Abbas Mastan movies, but people remember Baazigar even non SRK fans. That is what is a movie star. The ability to change ordinary roles to memorable because they are in it.
TV actors lack that IMO. I have little idea of it but based on what I have seen, If they are given strong characters and a look, and they get time to grow in it they become tremendously good in it,. But step outside from some iconic TV roles and these people do not seem to be able to recreate the magic that made them so compelling to watch. SSR, Sobti and KSG seem to me to be like that. They will have careers in the fringes, not on top and not for long. But future superstars they are not IMO.
