OKAY I've been waiting for a DLKH appreciation thread for so long so I'm going to post my review again! It's long 😆
What a beatiful beautiful film! Overrated love stories like DDLJ are termed as classics, when this love story is so much better than a DDLJ!
Beautiful characterisation, and growth of characters! After Queen, if somebody has shown the growth of character well it is DLKH! And like Queen, it has shown the Desi-pan so well. The mindsets, the accents, the characterisation is SO Indian! India doesn't have always the torturing, backward in-laws. Of course there are the typical 'taunts' sometimes but they fit well! LOL
Each and every character is etched so well & all the actors perform them to the 'T'. Good of YRF to not opt for the A listers to make the film a hit, this is one of the best casting I've seen in recent times! All of them live the characters!
The story moves gradually- peppered with humour always! Sandhya was such an amazing character - she just has so much of self worth its amazing! Even her body doesn't hamper confidence- she doesn't undermine herself ever. Usually in most movies, when the girl is more educated they show her as this arrogant, ulta jawaab Deni waali 'modern' woman! The best thing about Sandhya was, she was still desi- her modernity was in her thoughts than her demeanour. She was still closer to her roots, modern in her decisions! Which is very realistic...
It was also amazing to see for once- they focussed more on the guy being insecure over education than the girl being over her weight issues! They came around all of it in the end, and I was rooting for them with a big smile on the face - when she said she doesn't want to go Heart But she accepts him when he accepts her fully, without any compulsions and insecurities- it was done up beautifully!
The supporting cast was amazing! I kept ROFLing over Sanjay Mishra's and Ayushman together! The mother's 'Tu bhaagego' is going to make me laugh for a long time. Loved how the bua get a closure too, and she doesn't let her dislike for Sandhya stay! Sandhya's brother and mom were hilarious too specially in scenes with the lawyer!
Loved how Sandhya didn't even back down to her parent's terms! It was also refreshing to see that they didn't try emotional drama on her too to get back to her sasural.
Ayushman was so amazing with the accent, and the mannerism! This guy has such a good dialouge delivery Clap Everything was so spot on- he needed to be nominated for Best Actor.
I'm going to get killed for this- but he was at par with AB Sr in Piku Stern Smile
Bhumi was brilliant too! Definately in the top 3 debuts of all time for me! She gave so much grace to Sandhya despite the 'bulky' body, looking so comfortable in her own skin. You don't find her awkward ever!
That's all it's too big of an essay anyways! LOL
The only flaw of the movie was having a hard time to understand the accent sometimes!
