Fan quick movie review: Shah Rukh Khan's double role is highly engaging!

Fan is Shah Rukh Khan's first release of 2016, followed by Raees in July. The expectations from this Maneesh Sharma directorial are sky high thanks to the plot line and SRK's dual avatar.

Shah Rukh Khan stuns with his dual avatar

Shah Rukh Khan's Fan is one of the most awaited films of the year. The expectations from this Maneesh Sharma directorial are sky high thanks to the plot line and SRK's dual avatar as superstar Aryan Khanna and his 25-year old fan Gaurav Chandana. Apart from King Khan, Fan also stars Waluscha DeSousa and Sayani Gupta. Our critic Sreeju Sudhakaran is watching Fan at a multiplex right now and has sent us his first impression of the film.

Sreeju says, " Fan is Shah Rukh Khan's first release of 2016, followed by Raees in July. Let me tell you this in the start itself - Fan is definitely different from what Shah Rukh Khan has done in the past five years. And this makes it different from a usual SRK fare. The first half follows what we have seen in the trailers. Gaurav is Aryan Khanna's biggest and truest fan, as per his own words. He wins a star fan contest which gives him money to meet Aryan in Mumbai on his birthday. His parents also support his endeavour. On reaching Mumbai, he, as expected, doesn't get a chance to have face time with his idol on his birthday. Since hook doesn't work out, he takes the crooked method. The way he chooses doesn't please Aryan Khanna and the star gets the fan arrested, and tells him on his face that he is not his Fan, and that he should return soon to Delhi.

This hurts Gaurav's ego, who determines that from now on whenever Aryan's name is taken, Gaurav's name will be taken along with it. The first half is very intriguing. Gaurav's love for Aryan is believable, even when he goes to extreme lengths to show it. There are a couple of sequences that shows how insane he can be. His first glimpse of AK in flesh is actually one of the best shot scenes in recent times. Shah Rukh Khan is believable as both the star and his fan, though he sometimes goes a little overboard as Gaurav. The film is at a very interesting arc when it reaches the interval. Hope the second half maintains the tempo. "
