Kangana Ranaut: I don't wish to be a superstar

The Tanu Weds Manu Returns' star urged people to look up to more "real personalities" for inspiration

Kangana Ranaut believes the definition of a superstar is now restricted to "online hits" and the National Award-winning actress says she would rather be known for her work than her histrionics on social media.

Ruing sensationalism, one of the prevailing by-products of social media, Ranaut said she feels "disheartened" to see online stars being made role models.

"In today's society, a superstar is someone who can excite, enthral or maybe get people crazy with his her abilities but our generation with the social media and other platforms, it is really disheartening to see that they don't have nice role models," said the 28-year-old actress.

"One with the highest followers, or having the biggest butt or someone who is good for nothing are superstars today! If today I open an account on social media and do something sensational I will become a superstar overnight. Do I consider myself one? No. Do I want to be a superstar? No, thank you," she added.

The Tanu Weds Manu Returns star urged people to look up to more "real personalities" for inspiration.

"To give credit to what superstars do. everyone is very happy with their little existence, providing themselves luxuries, comfort and it seems this is the only agenda for today's generation. I don't want to have such role models. As a part of this new generation, I would like to make a real contribution. I don't want to be a superstar.

"Superstars don't last, real people do, real heroes last. I want to be a real hero. There have been so many superstars in the past. Who cares about them? I would want to contribute in real sense, I want to be somebody who lasts even when not around. I want to be someone who can reach out to people through her work. Being a superstar shouldn't be the priority of your life, being a real person should be," she said.

When asked who is her role model, Ranaut said it is her own journey in Bollywood which inspires and motivates her to give it her best. "I have certain expectations of myself and I try to work towards them."

Why dont you just stop talking and concentrate only on your work. The only thing she has done till now is takeing digs on other people instead just doing your own thing. Kangs is too much interested what others do or what others say or whatever. Some are happy with the way they handle their profession or are happy to be a superstar. Its not her business and she is in no position to say what is really right or really wrong especially in a profession like this. She should stop judging the work of her contemporaries. A Katrina or Deepika or Priyanka they only open their mouth if they appreciate the work of others else they dont while you had a Kareena earlier but a Sonam and a Kangana who like to talk about others negative or positive.

She has ACHIEVEMENTS nder her belt to be able to say what she does. How many would say I take inspiration from my own story 😆 Gotto give it to her for ingenuity too 👏

ACHIEVEMENTS should make one humble not arrogant. That too for the ones who takes inspiration from their own story

whoever fails to become a superstar ends up stating such lines. You do not want to be a superstar may be because you tried and failed and got your success with a different approach. Such statements only mean that she is still insecure that Superstars ( Hrithik and Deepika in this case ) are bigger and more celebrated than her even though they do not have any National award, they do not have a sob story, but they do have everything else anybody would envy for.

Kangna should calm down, a win is always respected only when the winner knows how to respect the victory, instead of taking digs at Hrithik and Deepika, she can choose to spread positive vibes with bytes.

Totally agree with her. I see a lot of good for nothing tv/movie celebs being made into role models online nowadays!

Richa Chadda said something similar in the Rajeev Masand interview (with kalki & DP). People should look towards real life heroes for inspiration...not these celebrities, who just reap off people's low self-esteem and need for escapism.
