I actually think females have a more loyal fanbase. Guys work consistently without breaks, women take breaks, sometimes decades, but they are warmly welcomed back and people do go to see their movies. Few women who can open movies and guarantee a hit by themselves, but Sridevi came back after 15 years and was warmly welcomed, Gauthami down South came back after a decade plus, was warmly welcomed. Kajol disappears for years and comes back periodically, always warmly welcomed. Ash came back, warmly welcomed. The movies they chose are not those that exactly set the BO on fire generally but people always miss them a lot and seem to want them back. Barring a few though, guys have not been able to make a comeback. The Deols, Imran Khan are all examples of people who have tried to come back, but not successfully. A guy needs to be consistently working and be successful or he is put to pasture

That's actually s norm in society, how can we expect Bollywood to be any different?

Men are fickle as they seek younger ones after few years and if the actress gets married which leaves only female fans whereas male actors have both men and women rooting for them even after they are 100 years old and are married with kids then grand kids then great grand kids ( Raj kapoor for instance)
