In movies like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naan, Chak De India, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, and Swades he is a 10 on 10. Restrained, dignified performances of a good actor who can essay roles with authenticity and without histrionics.

His negative roles in Darr, Baazigar, Don teeter on an 8 or 9. He has a knack of endearing himself to audiences even when he is negative and still giving chills. It is quite impressive when you think that he is a quintessential romantic hero playing a baddie. I dock points because he has a tendency to go over the top.

DDLJ, KHNH, MHN, OSO and a few others are perhaps 7 out of 10. He has some excellent comic timing and can be very witty. He is also very charming in romances. It is not his best work though.

Movies like Mohabattein, Dil To Pagal Hain are maybe a 5 or a 6. In trying to be too romantic or melodramatic he goes over the top.

Chennai Express, Dilwale and a few others are like a 0. He completely wastes his talent in mindless comedy.
