The fact that Pari is average looking should not count against her. Not everyone can be an Ash or a Madhuri. Kajol is a great example of someone who is average looking who managed to make a space for herself for 2 decades and makes come back after come back even after becoming a mother. Even though she is an industry kid and has generations of women in her family acting before her, it is because because of her acting alone she has it IMO, her sister fizzled out. In fact her acting is what Aamir, possibly the pickiest actor wanted her for Fanaa. 20 years later, SRK is not going to cast her Dilwale if he was not sure she would contribute something to the film and be an asset instead of liability.
Kajol can act, really act. She is loud, boisterous, annoying, borders on rude or is outright rude, blunt in RL and she brings many of these characteristics to the characters she plays. But in the same film, she surprises you by playing soft, quiet and totally against character. She can also play against type too, totally against type. Dushman and Gupt come to mind. She acts with her whole body especially her eyes making a cheesy romantic scene like the gazebo scene in KKHH absolutely romantic. I consider that scene a master class in acting and chemistry where two people are totally in sync with each other. It is such an ordinary scene, even bordering on absurd but what makes it iconic is SRK-Kajol in it. Kajol's films and roles are not masterpieces, DDLJ is nothing special, what makes it special is the ability of generations to identify with Simran. That is a great quality Kajol has that makes her a great actress. Her acting is not dependent on the greatness of the script or role, she elevates it because she is in it.
When Pari first came to the scene, I thought she was an actress like that because she reminded me so much of Kajol in personality and acting. But she has turned out to be a one note basically playing herself over and over again. IDK if it is a combination of her abilities or her choice of films, but that is what she came across as. Blaming YRF for the quality of movies they gave her does not work for me. A movie does not get more absurd than Karan Arjun, but what makes it still watchable are SRK-Kajol and Salman.
Pari lacks that quality, the ability to elevate ordinary movies to memorable that SRK, Kajol and Salman have. Salman especially is not known for acting, but he made MPK and HAHK watchable after all these years because of the way he played Prem and made it memorable. Pari has talent, but that alone is not adequate. What gives a long career is the ability to elevate a role to something people can connect with and make it special because they are in it IMO. Plus the quality called 'lighting up the screen' even if you look average that Pari lacks. Kangana is a great example of someone that 'lights up the screen'. Those are something Pari lacks and that is why she does not have the career she could IMO.
