Finally decided to see the movie, given that I've loved Sooraj Barjatya/Rajshri movies in the past. I enjoyed PRDP. It didn't create the Maine Pyar Kiya or Hum Saath Saath Hain magic for me, but it was still a nice watch. Salman was great. As always, he brought "Prem" to life. Sonam did well too. No one else could have looked like the princess that she did so I can see why Sooraj Barjatya wanted only her as Princess Maithili. I enjoyed the grand sets and costumes. Sometimes it's just nice to watch grand things on screen. Prem-Maithili scenes were nice, there was simplicity in their romance, which I'm a sucker for. I also liked the Prem-Bapu (Anupam Kher) bonding. Virgin Bapu, haha! There were lots of songs, some almost right after the other. But it brought back that old Bollywood feel for me, when each movie would have about 8 songs. I miss the old-school Bollywood movies so I enjoyed PRDP and its many songs.

I have a question for anyone who has seen the movie.
SPOILER AHEAD
Was Ajay Vijay's step-brother or real brother? I didn't catch that part. When they showed that childhood scene, it was evident that the sisters had another mother, but did Vijay and Ajay have the same mother, making them real brothers?
It's a minor detail but it's annoying me that I don't know!

Yes dear...Ajay was Vijay's step-brother...Vjay's mom died soon after giving him birth

I watched the movie in Cinema with my mother and it was the first time ever that she had entered in a Cinema Hall... My father has been a bit bore, unromantic and strict (lol) all through his life.. So I was looking at her expressions.. She enjoyed the movie like a child.. she was clapping, singing the songs and getting emotional in the climax.. She fell in love with Prem Dilwala and was really worried about him lol 😳 But I could never forget these precious moments and this has become my favourite Salman's movie... She was so happy that she asked me is there any other good movie like that or is there any other Salman's movie... I can't thank enough the entire team for making such a nice family entertainment 👏 Blessings!!

'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' shows how Bollywood films can make a mark at U.S. box offices

In celebration of Diwali " Indian New Year, which began Nov. 11 " South Asians in the U.S. flocked to cinemas last weekend to see the newest Bollywood release. "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" pulled in $2.8 million in its first four days on 287 screens.

That surprisingly strong showing landed the film at No. 8 on the weekend box office " right between the American studio hits "Bridge of Spies" and "Hotel Transylvania 2."

In that time frame, "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" (Receive a Treasure Called Love) has pulled in more than $36 million globally, the biggest worldwide opening for any Bollywood film in history, said Gitesh Pandya, head of Box Office Guru, a consulting company specializing in marketing and releasing films for the South Asian audience in North America.

The film has been playing throughout the Los Angeles area, including in Encino, Simi Valley and Burbank. Pandya said that the film was advertised heavily on Indian and Pakistani TV channels in the U.S. and had significant traction on social media (the trailer has had almost 19 million YouTube views).

Salman Khan & Sonam Kapoor and Sooraj Barjatya in the trailer for "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo."

But much of the enthusiasm for the film can be attributed to the timing of its release: Diwali is the biggest holiday in India and for Indians everywhere. The film is set during that season and is a feel-good and festive piece with story lines predicated on family, loyalty, sacrifice and honor " set against magnificent palatial backdrops and interspersed with rousing musical sequences.

"The Diwali period is the perfect time to release a film which appeals to the entire family, and [this] fits the bill," said Rohit Sharma, head of international sales and distribution sales for Mumbai-based Fox Star Studios, which made the film. Fox Star Studios is part of Fox International Productions.

The movie is loosely based on the classic novel "The Prisoner of Zenda." Director Sooraj Barjatya, who has had a string of hits, reteamed for "Prem" with Salman Khan, one of Bollywood's most bankable stars. Khan plays a double role: He is Prem Dilwala, an earnest, warmhearted performer who narrates lively reenactments of Hindu myths.

He is also besotted with Princess Maithili (Sonam Kapoor), a royal for the modern age: a fashion plate, virtuous, independent " yet not so much so that she will turn her back on her arranged betrothal to Prem Dilwala's double " Yuvraj Vijay Singh, the aloof, billionaire prince of Pritampur. The prince is about to be crowned king, and his stepbrother Ajay (Neil Nitin Mukesh), wants him out of the way so he can usurp the crown.

All this plays out against exquisitely shot sets: Almost every frame in the 2-hour, 46-minute film is filled with lavish details " thousands of marigolds, pathways covered in candles, a palace made entirely of crystal and mirrors; even the villagers are color coordinated, their market stalls immaculate.

"The film may not pretend to be original, but it presents a sumptuous reaffirmation of the wholesome and colorful nation " a cause to celebrate," said Samir Dayal, professor of English and media studies at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass., and author of "Dream Machine: Realism and Fantasy in Hindi Cinema."

Certainly, despite mixed critical reviews " the film has its predictable, formulaic moments, including a perfectly tied-up ending " it broke opening-weekend records in New Zealand, Fiji, the Netherlands and Mauritius, according to Sharma.

Dayal said, however, that for overseas Indian audiences, descriptions of a film being conformist or maudlin are meaningless.

"That cluster of failings has never prevented a Bollywood film from becoming hugely successful " and may explain the film's success," he said. Indeed, in this case, that formula has been the draw. For overseas audiences, he said "a residual nostalgia for the 'homeland' exerts a powerful tug on heartstrings " and wallets."

Thank you guys for your wishes🤗 I am overwhelmed!!! But I agree we still need these kind of movies to watch with our families... I am so sick of vulgar belly dancings and abuses where you really feel embarrassed even sitting with your sister... Bring back the 90s!!

Wooh, finally getting this done. 😆

I just want to reiterate that I felt tremendous excitement that I was going to see a Rajshri film in the theatres with Salman as Prem - basically, that sentence guarantees my ticket being bought. ⭐️

I do see how people might have been disappointed in the storyline - I don't think the plot was good enough to make a movie out of but I did enjoy a lot of the scenes in the film. Like well, numero uno has to be Jalte Diye - I mean the picturization is on another level. I could feel the chemistry between Salman and Sonam and it had uhm, I don't know how to describe it, like it touches your heart and you feel like a bond between them which I thought was fabulous. ❤️ Sonam just slayed me in that song right from when she removed her hair from her back - my bro was like: woah. And for people calling her horny and all sorts of things - if you're not doing it to tease her, she wanted him to show her physical affection and I see nothing wrong in that. I mean the man had his reservations because he was not the person she thought he was but a normal ENGAGED couple would hug, be intimate with each other. Doesn't just have to mean sex. I mean if Prem was infront of me, I'd be like:

And she's hugging herself in the end coz she's feeling his touch/embrace on her - y'all haven't seen previous Rajshri films? 😆

Anyways, coming to Neil - I didn't really feel him. Like, I thought he was gonna stand out but I felt he was just as bad as Armaan and they were actually given almost equal screen time. The scene at the end when Armaan falls through the roof part of the sheesh mahal was odd. 😕 But I guess SB didn't want to show a gory death. Length - I actually didn't have a problem with it. Didn't feel it. Neither did my parents. However if it was a cause of concern for others, maybe they could have just had Swara's character in the story and cut the little sister out alltogether (sorry, I do like her though 😆) which would've saved time in Tod Tadaiyya. Oddly enough, I really enjoyed watching that football match on the big screen and I was the one thinking to myself: who the flip puts a football match in a film and has a song on it? 😆

Songs - I salute Himesh. I thought he did a damn good job with all the songs 👏 - they had the Rajshri feel to it but it was also more modern, IDK how to describe it but it was perfect and I know he was doubted a lot so for me he passed. Halo Re is underrated. 😃 Great song. Enjoyed Prem Leela - I was taking some time to get latched onto it. Aaj Unse Milna has a such a sugary sweet vibe to it - LOVED IT. Especially since it had that jalebi scene and I didn't realize that was the first time I'd see Sonam and Salman's contact in the film. 😳

Deepak and Swara were amazing. It always puts a smile on my face when I see Swara and Sonam in a frame together. Jab Tum Chaho was a riot for me - Salman and Sonam were being so cuteee. When they were the puppets. ❤️ Man, Sonam looked good in EVERY frame of this movie, I was like, how are you doing this?? ⭐️ - she has this classic simplistic beauty vibe to her that completely took me in and I thought she did pretty good in the film. I mean, is she a Madhuri or Bhagyashree or Sonali Bendre? No but I feel she did a good job given her character and omg her clothes. She made me feel like I needa get a new wardrobe. Also those butt taps were so cute 😆 I love her laugh 😆

And now, to my darling Prem - I just melt when I see him. His antics were adorable in the beginning. And I loved the way he bossed Anupam etc. around when he stepped in for Vijay. And how he treated everyone not knowing the history of the family. I really was in the moment when Sonam before Jalte Diye said that he doesn't seem like the same person she got engaged to, like he was someone from away come to rid her of her loneliness. ❤️ Vijay didn't really have much to do but OMG when Salman spoke French and English as Vijay...

that man got me feeling some type of way. ☺️ Vijay at the end though - so sweet in that light blue suit. I'll take him, thank you! Salman really turned it on this year with BB and PRDP (I don't care what people may say about the story but I thought Salman did amazing here)

The background music was pretty awesome - Palak Mucchal humming the saiyyan tu kamaal ka is just magical. Oh and the title song was so much fun to watch on the big screen - I was saying "aayo", "paayo" and "chaayo" under my breath in my seat. 😆⭐️

First half dragged a bit according to me and 2nd half was better - not gonna mince my words, the story was bad but I never regretted my decision to come to theatre. Barjatya tried to deliver family drama but it wasn't as convincing as his previous films. It's not up there with HSSH, HAHK and MPK which are big shoes to fill IMO but I'm pretty sure I'll be watching some scenes of this film (read the Salman and Sonam scenes) regularly like I do with the others. 😊

Also, yeah, when I saw that Sheesh Mahal 😳 I mean, I get that they came from a royal background etc. but maybe that was a bit too much in the grandeur section. 😆

Music is doing really well this side and in the cinema outlet I went to, there are 2 cinema halls for PRDP and one for Spectre. I had the privilege of watching it in our biggest theatre - the Supernova. It was about 80% full (the hall is HUGEEE) for a 5pm show on Tuesday which is pretty good. ⭐️⭐️

What else can I say about the film - I liked it. Was I blown away? Not really but I enjoyed seeing Salman in this role, brought a smile to my face, seeing Sonam in a big film, Swara, Deepak, the music... I hope to catch it again one of these days when my exams are over. I do agree collections are not as expected but it is not that bad 😕 Where them Prems at? I'm up for some feather romance. 😳❤️

Sunte hain jab pyaar ho toh diye jal utthe hain, tan main mann main aur nayan main diye jal utthe hain... aaja piya tere hi tere hi liye... jalte diye... bithaani tere saiye main saiye main zindagani bithaani tere saiye main saiye main... ☺️

Pyaar main itne acche banne ke koi zuroorat nahin ☺️

Congratulations Team PRDP Cannot wait for my exams to be over so I can go through all their interviews... hope you'll are ready to go through them again with me coz I don't know where else to fangirl 😆

Was waiting for you review chevi and i loved it. 🤗
I cant say anything else. You have said everything. 😃
